Uh, Jedi and space battles are fine, but if it doesn't get over that hump of being a bland and shallow BF clone, I can already forecast this as another no-buy from LucasArts.

What's a Tag?

Battlefront could have been killer if it was a pc game first. But being an xbox port just ruins the potential of the game on the pc. It''s like a kiddie roller coaster but it could have been Space Mountain.

But seriously.. Battlefront was terrible. Not that anybody expected anything else, but Battlefield 1942 regurgitated with star wars skins does not make a good game.

I really only played the demo that came on the Star Wars DVDs, on the XBox. However, the gameplay on that was so blindlingly terrible, in absolutely every respect (control, graphics, AI, sound, hit detection, interface etc etc etc) that I wrote it off as one of the worst games I''ve ever played. I mean, ever. It was practically unplayable.

That makes no sense... who to say that if it was a PC only game it wouldnt have sucked just as bad as it did.

It has nothing to do with being a console port.. there are plenty of quality console games and console ports of pc games and vice versa

The fact is that Battlefront was a Lucasarts cash in on the Star Wars DVD release. They''ve done this every time there has been a major Star Wars-related promotion since Phantom Menace. Battlefront should have given the consumer what the advertisements promised, participating in the battles we''ve seen in the movies. What we got was a half-assed exceptionally low-quality Battlefield clone that was rushed out the door to help George pay for his ILM effects shots.

NEver said there weren''t any quality console games or pc games. But this game was particularly hampered by being a console port. Hell you could only fly like 30 ft into the air. Major suckage brought on by a technical limitation directly related to being a console port.

Now don''t get me wrong there''s more wrong with the game than this. But the smallish enviroments really hampered my enjoyment of the game and it''s because it was a port that it was like this.

Battlefront 2 is only being developed to be pushed out the door to coincide with the Ep III DVD. It''ll ride the hype of the DVD release and make Lucas a bundle of cash, because the herd will all buy it.

Makes sense. LEC has a standing policy to have games out within the year they are announced. That''s what led to the KOTOR 2 debacle.

I thought that they got rid of the management team that implemented that policy. I was hoping this new team (if there is in fact one) had a different approach to games.

I know it''s got a lot of flaws, but I''m rooting for the SW Battlefront franchise. If only the Halo 2 engine could be used to recreate SWB, that would be my perfect game.

I have almost as much fun playing SWB on the losing team as with the winners. I like that the sides are often uneven. I wind up playing just to play-- let''s give em hell and all that. H2 is designed more like a sports game. It''s more about the better team winning, and that ain''t always a lot of fun.

(BTW, the ONLY way to play this game multiplayer is to choose Optimatch, and then put your controller down for maybe a minute or two-- unfortunately, it takes that long for the system to figure out which games are running at a good rate (which you will know by the ping bars.) If you can get a game with more than eighteen players running at a good rate, you''re in for some fun.)
