Lightning Bolt! Phase two ?
Thursday, February 10th, 2005 - 2:57pm
Wow. This must be some kind of World LARP meet, or something. Lots of people acting like they were in a Fantasy world.
There's actually some hotties in this thing... Hmmm...

Some of it looks kinda cool, with explosions and everything. However, most of the guys look like they've never held a weapon. And then the masks come in...

I cannot believe I''m downloading this...
EDIT: Yes I can. I enjoy watching people do things that are laughably ridiculous. As does my wife... *sigh*

I''ll admit, I downloaded this because Mex mentioned hotties. I didn''t see any in the first 30 seconds and couldn''t stand that thing any longer.

Ok, I admit, I used to take part in LARP games. Nowhere near as elaborate and super-dorky as those though. Those people are taking things just a bit to far. You''d think that if they were going to put that much effor into something, they''d at least get decent costumes. That and, you know, try to be less annoying.

Hence her acceptance to your offer of marriage. A lifetime of hilarity?

I''m glad I watched that video. Or at least parts of it. I never knew how to say ''nerd'' in German before...

-on L4DThe only semi-cool part in that video was the Sauron vs. Saruman recreation. I am sure of you''re actually into this crap then you''ll love the video, but it looks really sad to me as outsider.
It looks similar to videos of http://www.bamboovideo.com/ , however they took those videos down after people found out about the site and started laughing at them.
Those clips were hilarious, I should''ve saved some of them. Some guy is standing in place, and two guys in yellow costumes run up to him from 50 meters away but then about 10 meters away they suddenly stumble onto invisible wall and fall down. Truly a great demonstration of personal power. Get yours today !

Well... there''s 11 minutes and 22 seconds of my life I''ll never get back...
Playing D&D and rolling d20s on a Friday night with friends I can understand. Renaissance fairs and various medieval gatherings I can understand. But LARPing I just don''t get... how can that be fun? It''s like that episode of South Park where they get the martial arts weapons and play fight in an alley. Kids do that stuff, I can''t see a 20+ year old adult performing incantations and fighting with foam weapons and pretending they''re Drizzt, Raistlin, Aragorn or Sauron. It just boggles my mind.

Long story but I actually met my wife because I shared the Dead Alewive''s Dungeons & Dragons skit on the company network. Coworker downloaded it, talked me into starting a weekly D&D session and the first night we ran a campaign my wife to be was visiting the coworker''s wife and we met. It was love at first sight.

I cannot believe I watched the whole thing. That is by far the most retarded thing I''ve seen all week. Some of the props were pretty cool, and there was one fight sequence where the guys actually looked like they knew what they were doing, but otherwise it was one giant nerd herd, milling about trying to look cool.
The wizard fight was one of the worst.
Wizard Nerd 1: ""I point at you with my stick!""
Wizard Nerd 2: ""Ahh! I fall down. I point at you with my stick!""
Wizard Nerd 1: ""Ahh! I fall down. I point at you with my stick!""
Ad nauseum.
Yes, I realize they''re copying the LoTR movie fight scene, but then I thought that was pretty retarded too.
Why did I watch the whole thing? Morbid fascination.

My thoughts exactly, homey. They may as well be playing ninjas or GIJoe.

Yeah, it does get ridiculous. I played when I was young, and didn''t know any better.
Of course, I still play table top D&D games, and work at a renaissance faire, so I haven''t really taken much of a step up. At least we use real weapons and have guns and stuff though.

Ah, the LARP-ers. A colorful lot, with a penchant for expression.
I''ve played a lot of D&D in my life, and I''m not ashamed of that. This video makes me feel shame. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
LARP-ing is a lot like BDSM, IMHO. We all know it exists, and that many people do it. That doesn''t mean you should videotape yourself doing it and put it out where others can see it.
I rolled 3 20''s in a row once, I''d like a tape of that. But that''s about it.
Oh crumbs, I'm all thumbs laying here with you. You're beautiful and busty and I'm a little rusty - I've forgotten what to do...
Its been a long time since I''ve hated anyone. Yet I now know it is possible to hate hundreds of people that I don''t even know.
