Guild Wars Preorder goodness

Don't know if this has already been mentioned or not but EB is selling preorders of Guild Wars for $0.01 (but you have to pay a minimum of $5!) which gives you beta access, an exclusive weapon and some other stuff.

The end draws nigh for all those games that make you pay to play.

I''m interested in giving this one a try but, man, I don''t know if I can juggle 2 MMORPGs at the moment.

That doesn''t make much sense... you don''t sell preorders, you just take them. The 5 dollars goes towards the purchase of the game. If EB''s gonna start charging people extra money for pre-order bonuses, I call shinanigans.

Several of us were relentlessly excited about this game and pre-bought ages ago. There were 50 odd members of the GWJ Guild from the Alpha events but as soon as WoW came out, Guild Wars became a total Ghost Town. Virtually all of us bought WoW and Guild Wars seems, irrelevant now, or at the very least far less compelling than WoW.

I am guilty of that Spleen and I am ashamed to admit it. I really like GW but like you said, WoW will own me for a long while.

I remember in the summer having some conversations with Certis. At that time, prior to the WoW Stress Test, I was really psyched about Guild Wars whereas he was lukewarm on it. It wasn''t until I spent a lot of time in WoW then went back to GW for the beta event that I realized what Certis was talking about -- GW feels very empty and hollow underneath the pretty exterior. WoW, thus far anyways, has simply been more compelling. I preordered GW but actually question as to whether or not I''ll buy it when it is released. A lot would have to change for me to move back to GW.

And it should be said that although GW has some very nice graphics and stylish touches, the overall presentation in WoW impresses me far more on a visual level than GW does.

I used to be quite the GW advocate myself, but this last Beta weekend basically killed it for me. I''m completely rubbish at anything PVP, so the co-op missions are the way to go for me, and THEY in turn depend on having fellow GWJ''ers around. WoW (along with the Beta weekend having no new co-op missions) resulted in me logging in all of 5 minutes.

I don''t think GW interest will spike up again, so it''s adieu GW for me.

if their beta is the same as it has been it won''t be hard, last I checked it had only been open a couple of weekends so far.

They''ve got to sweating over at Areanet. GW was supposed to attract all the Diablo fans but I think WoW has done more of that than anyone expected. I used to pimp GW a lot here, but I haven''t given it a moment''s thought since WoW took hold of me.

I''m not sure if their downfall is due to faults of their own, or that WoW is just so much more deep and engrossing. It''s main draw will be the no monthly fee angle.

I just think it''s because WoW came out first. I haven''t played WoW, so I can''t compare its compellingness or grind factor.

I''ll be playing the open beta most of this weekend except for some kung fu and hockey. Is anyone from the GWJ Guild going to be on that can let me in? I didn''t see Brother Spleen last time.

Gamestop does the same thing except the $5 is a deposit towards the game for when you pick it up. If you don''t want the game when it comes out you just take the $5 back

GW is still quite a ways away. If they time it right, it could easily take hold.

The crafting angle needs some work. One thing GW does very well is the hireling system. That and the missions are very near in quality of instanced missions in WoW.

The skills are creative and diverse. As diverse and creative the classes are in WoW, I barely see any similarities in the implementations between WoW and GW, which is a feat itself.

Mixolyde, let me know your character''s name and I''ll try to pre auth you for membership when the weekend starts. I can''t see me playing much but I do plan to at least check it out this weekend.
