Christmas - Speculations over, what'd you get?
Friday, December 24th, 2004 - 10:34pm
I have to say that my Sister pulled the biggest surprise out of the hat. She located videos of my father playing college football - up until now I had only seen short clips and a few pictures, but now I've got:
Ole Miss vs Alabama - 1969
Ole Miss vs Tennessee - 1969
Ole Miss vs Arkansas (Sugar Bowl) - 1970
Watching those DVD's was really something special. Wow. Way to go Jen! ![]()

Are you one of those evil families that opens presents on Christmas Eve?
Weirdos.
I still have at LEAST 8 hours before I know what I''ll get.

We open family (siblings/parents) presents Christmas Eve, and each other presents Christmas morning.
Part one of the festivities are over (wife''s family). Thus far, the haul has been plenty good:
Sharp DVD-R/RW+ drive
PNY 5700LE Nvidia card (yea!)
Two really great sweaters from Bannana Rep
A new Wine Guide
So now I can get drunk on quality plotz while ripping a DVD and basking in the glory of Nvidia. And look good while doing it to boot!
Huzzah!
Part two (my family) many-ana.
I got a seperated shoulder!

Well, so far we''ve only gone through the obligatory ""Open just one present on Christmas Eve"" thing, but I got Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. Pretty sweet since I would have picked up the game in January if I didn''t get it for Christmas. Have it installed but haven''t gone through any of it yet, I''m still trying to get through Battle for Middle Earth first.
I don''t anticipate getting very much tomorrow. It''s been a tough year for my parents, my sister''s in college and extremely broke, and my brother, well he usually has quite enough money to shop for everybody with but he''s only one guy ya know? He probably got me a couple of gift cards and just left it at that. I suppose I''ll find out about 12 hours from now.

Dunno what the parents got me yet.

Don''t have to speculate since over here the gifts are being handed out on Christmas Eve anyway. My family got me a wardrobe for my new apartment. (Naturally, that kind of gift is not surprise since such a thing has to be planned.) Of course, it''s not standing around right here. To be delivered post-Christmas.)
My family in Greece sent us 2 new goose down comforters... the ones I had were past their useful life.
Also..
I did buy myself a new Espresso machine..
whoohoo!
Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter

The guy I worked extra hours for last night surprised me: he and his wife got me a 60-day pre-paid gamecard for World of Warcraft as a thank you. He''s a great guy anyway, and just knowing that he was getting to enjoy Christmas Eve with his family would''ve been thanks enough for me, but it really was such a thoughtful gift that it made my Christmas.
That''s what works for me: doesn''t have to be anything elaborate, but something that shows you thought about what the person would really like or what might make them happy; he knew that being away from family, I spend a lot of time gaming both for fun and for an escape, so he contributed to my happy place.
I got some clothes. Nice clothes, like some Ugg slippers, but still clothes.
My stocking had lots of my favorite candy in it, so I must have been OK this year.
Gaming-wise, I got GR2, Fatal Frame 2 Director''s Cut, Fuzion Frenzy, and D&D Heroes for the Xbox; Dog''s Life for the PS2; and Mario Party 6 for the GC. The PC got a lonely copy of Pacific Assault, but I got some money from my parents that could get a copy of Escalation. Need the new video card first, though.

Well, in about T-Minus 30 minutes I''ll know! I''m up before everyone so I''m going to have to go around and poke them with a stick. A sharp stick.

I did OK. Complete series of the old Transformers cartoons on DVD. Star Wars Battlefront, Tribes Vengeance. Also a couple of books and a nice wool blanket.
My hard drives are named Aequitas and Veritas. And my computer''s name is Il Duce. Boondock Saints, anyone?
As for my christmas, I was 50% right on my predictions - I got a 40 gig iPod, but no Nintendo DS. My coolest gift, however, was an X-Box. My brother''s X-Box, actually. I had mentioned like a month ago that I would buy it off him for $70 or so, because he rarely used it anymore, so he bought me a wireless controller, and boxed it all up, and that was his gift to me. It was cool.
Other than that, it was pretty standard... clothes, etc. A good Christmas.

To finish off the loot:
Some DVD''s, a check for $30, some shirts, and some other small items like a mini-swiss army knife to put on my key chain, and some other stuff.
Pretty cool actually. Just a little off that I didn''t get any jeans, but I can probably find a couple of comfortable pairs for $30 sometime in January.

A crystal Xbox with an extra game, and about a million snes roms already installed in the hard drive. Wow! I imagine it also plays copied games. It''s interesting, it was still factory wrapped and everything.
About 5 games too...

I think I did pretty good this year:
A tune-up and new exhaust manifold for my car.
A set of clay poker chips (they are beautiful).
Cash money.
Clothes and a few assorted trinkets.
Certainly the cash and the car stuff were the most helpful, but the poker chips are just, so choice.
