Well I won't be able to advance the league until this evening (between 7 and 8 CST), but here's the week 4 thread and schedule if you want to try to set up some game.

I've added a poll question for a little variety. I can't make any promises, but I might try to do a special write-up on the winner or something.

Ejay - You and me, bub. When would you like to play? I have golf tonight at 10 EST, but other than that I am free. I dunno if you have me on your friends list, the gamertag is Uber Wolf

Edit: As the world revolves around me, I made my game the game of the week.

Who has San Diego? Might as well get this game out of the way early this week if we can so i can coordinate with Grump and see how Demi and I dropping would impact the league.

I''m fairly certain that, like when Reaper temporarily dropped out, anyone that plays a team with no owner will have to simply get an automatic win. To the best of my knowledge, there is no function to re-do the scheduling once the season has started. (I''d offer up the Jets as an alternative, Spy, but since I''m the commissioner, I''m the one person that can''t swap teams. Sorry.)

On a different note, while I hope everyone gets their games in early, I plan to extend the week by a couple (2) days, if necessary, to compensate for the holiday. The same will be true next week. Of course, if you guys hurry up and get your week 4 games played....

Finally, here''s the thought of the day. Understand, that I already think this is probably unrealistic, but I thought I''d share it anyway.

I was thinking about the fact that a few people have commented that they didn''t really like the team they were playing with and felt that they kinda got ""stuck"" with it. Wouldn''t it be interesting if players could bid on the team they wanted?

Basically, I was thinking it would be cool to auction off the teams (yes, with real money which is why this probably wouldn''t work) with half the money raised going as a donation to the site and the other half going as a prize (or prizes) at the end of the season. Obviously, you might say that people could ""buy the championship"" (not that it''s worked for the Yankees) but as Miami proved last night, ""that''s why they play the game.""

Additionally, people might theoretically be more inclined to actually get their games in if there was something tangible to play for. Heck, I''m almost to the point of offering up a copy of NFL 2k6 to the winner if it would get you guys to play (70% completion rate in week 3 after two 80% weeks). Of course, thanks to EA, that''s pretty intangible as well.

One more time - no, I don''t expect this to happen and I just wanted to share.

Perhaps I should have disclosed the fact that I (who be Philly) blow goats at this game. This simple truism bars me (and my Eagles) from being discussed with relation to any ""game of the week"" mumbo jumbo.

I like the money idea Grump. I actually play in 2 money leagues, an NFL one and an NBA one. Let me tell you, it''s great. No one ever misses their games and it''s super active. Right now I''m in the final four of the NBA one and am looking to cash in! It doesn''t have to be much at all...maybe 20 bucks through paypal?

Swamp, can I play you when Bulger gets better? Anyways, PMd you with game time availabilty.

Well in the auction format, the amount is variable, not fixed. If you''re the only one who wants the Saints, you can probably get them for a buck... but if you wanted the Eagles or the Patriots, the bidding could get high.

...which might even be an interesting sub-game, if you will. I mean, let''s say that the auction nets $100 with $50 going to GWJ. If you win with a ""cheap"" team, you could make a 50:1 profit as opposed to if you had to pay $25 to pick up TO and McNabb, you''d only net a 2:1 profit. Depending on how the pot ended up split (which would all be determined before-hand but since this is academic, I won''t bother with at this time), you might even lose money if you over-pay for a team and the rest of the league goes low.

For those of you going ""huh?"" about that last statement, let me provide an extreme example: 16 team, 16 week league. You get the Eagles for $85. Everyone else picks up their team for $1. Assuming a simple 50% prize of the $100 total, the best you could do is to only lose $35. With the best teams on the block first, it would be an interesting sub-game indeed.

Reiterating: The discussion of a pay-to-play league is for entertainment purposes only and unlikely to be implemented.

I''m disappointed nobody''s voting for my game with Bagga. Finally, I''m taking on someone that made the playoffs in the last league. Should be an exciting test.

Though I really wanna play Certis, and run with Leftwich on every 3rd down. Now that would be ugly.

Whoa there cowboy, let''s make one thing clear: My making the playoffs is only because somebody else had to. Meaning, I by no means consider myself one of the league''s elite -- as manifested in my current 1-2 record. I like to compete, but I''m not a top-tier player. Sure, I''ve had fluke wins against good players, but that''s the game. (edit: I also beat Certis in the playoffs last year Remember that, Certis? Remember how cool that was?)

Basically, I divide the players around here into two groups: The ""Die-hards"" and the ""Normies."" The Die-hards, as soon as the game starts, make a million changes to their lineups, plays, matchups, etc. The Normies don''t. All I do is switch the controller configuration, and off I go. I figure I should just play with the team that was given to me by the game. So, don''t expect a whuppin'' from me. In my two losses, I''ve been thoroughly dominated. If you can stop my ball control offense, I''m toast. But, you know, please don''t do that and stuff.

Yeah that unstoppable long bomb seemed to have my number Legion - if it werent for a decent TB defense you would have easily had a blow out victory, but I dont think I have ever seen a person recover from as many 3rd and 17''s as you... As for bidding for a team - I wouldnt play in that league at all because I have been playing for fun and I wouldnt ""pay to play"" so to speak. I think the way we did the league was fine - worst record picked first etc... - it just so happens that I picked a team that I dont particular like there offensive play style, but I have played them - I havent had the same fun I had in the first 2 leagues and given the difficulty of nailing down a player for the last two games it was becoming more frustrating then fun etc... I will stick with the league but will likely miss a few games and hope for a better pick in the next ""draft"".

Well, NFL 2k5 has yet again prevented me from playing my game.

That''s twice it''s done this. I send my Ready to Play, my opponent gets it, they send a Challenge, I don''t receive a Challenge.

They send the Ready, I Challenge, they don''t receive it.

---

It''s not like I haven''t been able to play at all. I''ve played one league game thus far and just today I played a regular online game. But for whatever reason, come time to play my League game, it is impossible to connect to my opponent, whether in the League or outside.

This is the second week it''s done that. If I can''t get it working, I''m going to ask to give the game to Certis. And if it does it for the rest of this week and next, I''m going to drop out of the league, because all I am right now is dead weight.

Heh. The thing is that I usually play so conservatively that I don''t break out my long passing game plays until it is 3rd and 17. So when I do, I don''t see and 3-deep or 4-deep coverages that might stop them.

Never seen anyone run the dime as much as you did either on almost every play - kind of stymied me on how in the world the Dime defense was stoppin the running game.

Well, Jacksonville has the best pair of DTs in the league - Stroud and Henderson. Those guys just tie up the middle all by themselves.

But even still, you were getting over 5 yards per carry. My goal was to disallow a deep pass, and let you chip away until I could get a big 1st down & 2nd down stop on one series of downs, and put you in a 3rd-and-long that I could stop to get you to punt. I was willing to let you whittle away field position, feeling confident that I could make a stop happen at SOME point in the drive. With my best DB out with injury, I didn''t have anyone that could play heads-up man coverage against Galloway. When I tried, Galloway smoked ''em.

Alstott was a nightmare, though. He''d drag a guy an extra 3 yards all the time.
