I forfeit my game against Dutty, although I was winning late in the 3rd quarter his constant QB scrambling on 3rd down (1st and 15 even) wasn''t fun at all, never mind that he also doesn''t use voice so my concerns could be not be heard.

If I wanted to play this sort of football game I''d close my eyes and pick random lobby games. I''m in the league for fun and I wasn''t having it here.

Damn. And I thought I was having a rough day.

Even though Opti and I played a close game and it was a nailbiter, the lack of voice made the experience less fun.

I don''t get what peoples'' beef with QB running is. It''s no less stoppable than anything else.

I don''t do it myself (Jags, Leftwich, I couldn''t even if I wanted to), but blitzing outside linebackers/DBs for containment pretty much puts the kibosh on it quickly.

The NFL is very steadily heading in that direction. I can''t count how many 3rd downs Steve McNair''s legs burned my Jags for over the past few seasons. And now Vick''s almost a shoo-in for 1,000 yards this season. It''s part of the new NFL.

EDIT: For voice, I haven''t used voice in either of my games so far. But both times, I started with the headset on, to hear if the other person was going to talk. Once the game''s underway, and nothing''s been said, I unplug the headset. That way, I don''t have to wear it, but if my opponent wants to say something, I''ll hear it through the TV speakers and can re-plug my headset to reply. You have to be sure to turn on the ""Voice over Speakers"" option in the ""Online Options"" menu to do that.

Given my aversion to chatting in 1-on-1 games, I think this is a reasonable effort approach. If someone wishes to talk, I''ll oblige.

Well, I don''t know what to say. I definitely understand where you are coming from. If you are interested I would like to have Grump reset the match and play a rematch game where I would not make a single QB scramble. We are all in this league to have fun, and if that is not achieved then we are wasting our time. If you feel you have already wasted enough time with me, then by all means, let''s proceed to week 4.

Some zone coverages aren''t very effective in stopping QB runs, unless the QB runs to a side without any receivers. Otherwise, the WR(s) on that side will be pursued downfield by the zone covermen until they release the receivers as they exit the top end of their zone assignments - at which time, the defenders will be a ways downfield.

The ones that work are plays like 2 Hard, where the outside defenders play VERY shallow zones, so they will not go very deep before they release.

Mix that with the many plays that blitz either 2 outside LBs or DBs - 1 on each side - and you will have containment, without having to go all-out to defend it. Or as I sometimes to, just blitz a guy on one side, and take a zone coverman on the other side, and manually ""spy"" the QB (or drop into zone if he stays in the pocket, so I''m not committing that guy to containment if he doesn''t try to run).

Beyond that, switch to the closest player and DON''T go for the tackle - run him horizontally to the sidelines.

Just a tip for anyone''s future use.
