Spiderman 2 and train
Thursday, December 9th, 2004 - 3:07am
For all you old comic book readers, did the train episode in the movie after he stopped it and the folks on the train picked him up and moved him in to help him and he realized he had no mask and they all promised not to tell (a bit of a stretch to say the least, but I liked the intent) come from the comic or was this a move license/convention?

I''m not an expert but I''m pretty sure that scene was invented for the movie. It was pretty rare in the comic for Spidey to lose his mask in dramatic situations, unless it was some kind of cliffhanger, but they''re always doing it in the movies so you can see Macguire''s face. Fair enough. A lot of other stuff in the movie was taken right from the comics though, like that scene where he throws his costume in the garbage and walks away into the background is practically the exact frame from the comic.
It was invented for the movie.

That is correct.
Sorry, saw a Spiderman thread and had to at least show my respect.
Great scene in the movie tho.
Of course if he wanted to, Doc could have surely ripped off the mask here:
I''m just ready for them to have a villain in the spiderman movies that''s actually evil, rather than crazy/possessed-going-on-a-rampage-until-spidey-beats-them-up-and-snaps-them-out-of-it evil. I mean, come on, give us villain who''s actually a villain, not a victim who''s acting out.
Graktar, Orc Hunter
I hear you on that. Venom would be perfect. He was pure evil.
The CG would be awesome as well.
Carnage?

Venom was not pure evil. Carnage is crazy evil.

He was pretty evil.
Come on, look at that face.

I always thought Carnage was a perfect example of Marvel over doing a good idea. They should have put all that energy in developing Venom more, IMO.
Venom also protected the innocent and later became a viglante like hero.

I think Venom would fall into the misunderstood/temporarily insane villain category too. Venom wanted to protect the innocent and be a hero, he/it just hated Peter Parker for rejecting it. This is not to say Venom wouldn''t be a cool villain to see in the movie, but you just know they''d write it so that at the end Venom saves Peter Parker and a bunch of innocents at the cost of it''s own life and gains redemption. *puke*
Graktar, Orc Hunter
Protected the innocent?! ARGH!
Apparently I stopped reading Spiderman before that happened.
That''s lame.
He''s still cool.
Now if you want a Villian with ulterior motives that knows he is a bad guy, Kain.

Spidey doesn''t really have a lot of ""pure evil"" villains to work with, really. If they''re not a variation on the petty criminal theme (Rhino, Tombstone, Vulture, The Kingpin) they''re people driven to madness by extremes (Scorpion, Green Goblin I and II, Doc Ock). None of the Sinister Six, for example, were really evil in a Chaotic Evil sort of sense.
As far as the 3rd movie goes, I would kinda like to see Harry Osborne finish his arc and take up the Glider. Not that Venom wouldn''t be cool, he''d just never really meet the fanboy expectations. And the last thing I''d wanna see is a Venom spinoff. The comics did a bad enough job of that as it is.
"Even though that place should only be fifteen or twenty minutes away geographically, in actual practice - between the hours of four and seven - Redmond might as well orbit the Earth." - Tycho, Penny Arcade
Hobgoblin would be cool, but the Green Goblin costme from the first one reminded me of a Power Rangers episode. Kinda weak.
Although I''m not as familiar with Kain as I am with the other villians (heading to ebay now to get some comics) if he is as evil as you say, I like the idea of him as a villian. I wonder if Marvel would ever do it because he''s not as recognizable to the masses as say a Doc. Ock or even Kraven the Hunter?
I''d really love to see a cross over of some sort. Maybe an appearance by the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil...something.
Carnage sucks as was a horrible invention.

I concur.
Kain was the only thing cool to come out of the whole Clone Saga. The moment he killed Doctor Octopus (yeah I know he was resurrected later..stupid marvel..) was awesome. Doc Ock was yelling at him saying he has gone toe to toe with the likes of Captain America, just who does he think he is!?
""I am Kain. You are dead.""
<snappage of the neck>
Hell, Kain even killed Kraven the Hunter (granted, it wasn''t the original Kraven, just his son, but still!)

They need to bring in Sandman.

Think of him as an even more violent and less picky version of The Punisher, and without the guns.
I still think he was an awesome character, even after he ""went good"".
Carnage is definitely one of the only real truly evil villains that Spider-Man had.
You bastards, now I''m going to have to dig out a bunch of my Spider-Man comics.

To do Venom as a villain, wouldn''t they have to go through the whole Spiderman replaces his suit story arc first? For the movies, that seems unlikely to me.
Also, I''ve actually read very little Spiderman, but I definitely remember Venom''s host (can''t recall his name) expressing remorse on occasion for the people he killed (after the fact). I agree, Venom is not the non-victim, true-evil villain you''re looking for.

Yeah there were a Venom comic spinoff for this circa ''95 if I recall. I think I still have Venom #1-6 somewhere. I picked it up because Venom is cool and the comic was based in San Francisco.

There was never a solid Venom series at least not during the time that I collected comics. There were however, many, MANY mini-series'' released, usually 3 or 4 issues.
I actually have several.

Multiple villains would be cool for the 3rd movie. They already have threads established for the Lizard (another misunderstood villain) and the Green Goblin. They should throw in Mysterio, Sandman, Shocker, and maybe Rhino as minor villain encounters.

I hope they don''t bring the Vulture in as a villian. That would just suck.
Now Kraven the Hunter would be pretty cool. Have him stalking Spiderman.
Venom = Eddie Brock

Wow! Thanks folks. Not only answered my question quickly, but turned into a very interesting thread. Cool.

I stopped reading around the time Venom appeared, but from his size it seems like he would have to be entirely CGI and might turn out all squishy like the Hulk did.
As for the question of evil, I don''t think there were a lot of inherently evil characters in Spidey comics until the nineties. In the old comics, the most evil trait of the villains was their indifference to whether people got hurt. A lot of the early villains didn''t necessarily want to hurt anyone but just didn''t care if they did. Spidey was all about resposibility, and so he was usually set up against the dangerously irresponsible villain.
