I posted about this in the roleplaying catch-all, but it's open to people who don't get to do in-person roleplaying much, so I thought a new thread might be a good idea.
I'm running another game of Callisto, this time set on the Silk Road somewhere around the second century.
Callisto is a play-by-email game that's a bit different than other roleplaying or strategy play-by-mail games. You write several letters a week to other players. The moderator reads your messages, takes the bits that have your narrative authority, and turns them into news posts for everyone to read.
The last Callisto game went pretty well, though the players did burn the town down.
There's a website for the new game, if you're interested in playing.
Update: We've reached a quorum of players, so I'm putting together the character sheets now. Because of how the game works there is still room for more players, and even after it starts more people can join in. And of course you'll be able to watch the news feed once we get started.
I was thinking about this recently. Did we have a roster of existing character roles when we started last game? I don't remember there being one, but I think such a thing would be helpful, just so that we knew who we might end up in contact with eventually, or so that we could know who to ask about in our letters to our contacts.
Well, now what am I supposed to put in here?
That might be useful. The character list won't be finalized until I've got enough players signed up, but one of my goals this time is to make sure that the players have more of a shared framework to discuss things from the start.

Oh man, I don't know how I missed this in the past, but this is right up my alley. I'm all in! Sending my application and registering on the site now.

FWIW, it was a LOT of fun. Totally worth it.
Well, now what am I supposed to put in here?
Oh, and if anyone is curious about how the game looks in practice, I made the last game into a book.

Ah ma gad I want this more than anything.
I'm going to mention this thread on the upcoming podcast in case it matters for when you plan on starting! Just FYI.

Is that, like, official sanction?
Well, now what am I supposed to put in here?
I'm not starting until next weekend at the earliest, and the game is designed to add players along the way, so there's no issues there.

I hope everyone is having fun! The first week has been pretty exciting for me to watch, not to mention to write a ton of news posts about.

Still getting a feel for it, but I'm really enjoying myself so far.

Oh man, I wish I saw this sooner. I would have given it a go. I'm a terrible writer though. Perhaps my letters could have been from the viewpoint of a person with a terrible grasp of punctuation and composition. Lol

New players can easily join a game in progress, so if someone is interested in joining they should check out the site.

Seven weeks into the game, we've had some wars, plagues, and runaway monkeys. A few people have had to bow out (thanks for playing!) but for now there's a core group of players who are driving things forward.
The news updates are here if you'd like to follow along.

I'm enjoying it! I suspect I'm one of the less eventful players, but part of it is me being a little cautious and feeling out how stuff works with this (part of it is that we closed on a house and are finishing up with the move; it's been a busy month and a half!). I love the balance of having a mediator to determine (based on clearly stated information for each player) what narrative elements become true via narrative authority.

I'm going to try and jump in on this after I buy the pdf. Hopefully I can still come in without being too disruptive. Or being disruptive enough? I'm not so sure at this point.
Alas, the game just ended last week! I'll be running another game in the near-ish future, once I've recovered from this one. I appreciate the enthusiasm, and I'll be sure to post here once I'm actually ready to start a new game.
Meanwhile, I'm working on putting together a book of the emails from the game, so everyone can see what went on behind the scenes. (There's also a data visualization of who was talking to whom.)

Oh, weird, I'm not quite sure how I found this thread. I could have sworn it popped up in a "recent conversations" area. Didn't realize the last post was 2 months ago.
The book of letters from the game is available! See the other players' secret schemes! Read the character sheets!
You can also sign up for the next game of Callisto I'm running: Revolution of Callisto!

More details about the new game:
In a time of revolution, players will take on the roles of characters who are experiencing the turmoil first-hand. Their choices will determine what happens.
