Man Purse?
Wednesday, December 8th, 2004 - 11:03am
So, I find myself bogged down in daily-use gadgets. I have my cell phone, my iPod, and now, my new iPaq 3115. Pockets? No. With wallet and keys, that's just too much stuff. Coat? Well yeah, that works for now, but I'm sure as heck not wearing a 3/4 length leather coat in the middle of the summer.
So, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for some sort of way to carry all these devices effectively. I'm 23, so I just don't feel RIGHT with a briefcase, and the only other thing I can think of is the Homestar Runner messenger bag I have with Strong Bad on it. Not exactly high-class.
Thoughts?

Cargo pants. Get one with four side pockets rather than two and all your equipment will fit in easily.
I''m thinking a pair of spandex capri pants in brilliant turquiose (to highlight your skin tones) topped off with an uber masculine tool belt:
is just thing for sportin'' your devices around town.

Just get a non-Stongbad backpack.
They''re cheap.

It''s the right thing to do. You know this in your heart.

Gah! at first I though it was a guy wearing pink shortsa and I looked away...then i was like he wouldn''t... and thank god it wasn''t..... but now I have to burn my eyes so I never see a guy wearing pink shorts

Yeah, I usually rock the cargo pants, holds my palm, cell, and other peripherals quite handily. Although that pink fanny-pack/codpiece looks rather tempting...
Halo2 and Xbox Live seem to have combined in my system to form some manner of video game crack...

Mountainsmith Lumbar packs.
I have the Day/Tour, and it served me well when I was still going to class. Could fit a few textbooks and all my notebooks in there. Easily slung over the shoulder. Go for the smaller styles if you don''t need that much space. They even sell straps so you can make it into more of a backpack.

I used to carry one of these in college. It was my ""man purse"". The waste belt tucks into a pocket and it has a shoulder strap.
Damn Druidpeak, beat me to it.

Winter = coat, summer = cargo shorts.
Of course if you have to carry this stuff at work, like me, and have to wear business casual, like me, neither of these solutions help during the business day in the summer. iPod goes on the desk, phone in my pocket, iPaq whichever works for you. When I leave for the day, iPod goes in my laptop bag (www.spireusa.com).
I have a small, Old Navy, single shoulder strap, backpack. I use it to carry my insulin and blood/sugar testing gear, but it often collect other devices and papers are stuff.
I often end-up carrying it in my hand. It does fit under my winter coat, but is uncomfortable when sitting in the car.
Yes it looks like a purse if I just carry it in one hand, but I don''t give a rats ass.

Ahhhh, cargo pants, the universal sign of the techie.

Well, guess I''ll just look at some less ""Internet Cartoon-related"" messenger bags. Should save me from MOST of the ridicule I receive from people like you guys.

I''ve got a pretty nice bag I got from work. It''s not a backpack, more like a soft shell briefcase crossed with a backpack (single over the shoulder strap), flap opens to reveal interior, black trimmed in tan leather. I have no idea what is is or where to get one (since I got it for free from work), but it''s smaller and easier to handle than a backpack, but nowhere near as formal and businessy as a briefcase. I''d expect you could find something like it at an Office Depot or something like that.

Join the military...wear BDU''s (Battle Dress Uniform) every day. 6 pockets on pants, 4 on shirt, 2-3 on Goretex - fly a fighter and you now have that zippy bag to wear...pockets and zippers adorn the thing!!!

Have you looked at http://www.scottevest.com/ ?
They used to just have the tech vest things but now they have a bunch of different styles and they actually look good too. A little pricey but worth it if you have a lot of gadgets.
Man do I wish it was societally acceptable for a dude to carry a purse. I hate having stuff in my pockets.
