I never got the hate for Kaidan Alenko. I love that character to bits.
Also, I think the BioWare games do a very good job of translating the reality a lot of women have to deal with on a daily basis. You say something totally innocuous and random guy starts hitting on you... ^^
Fairly certain I've already heard the Graham Rowat reading (I **know** I've read it for sure), but that piece is always awesome, it's just so perfect in every way.
And I've already said as much in the thread itself, but the "no buying new games in 2015"?... Yeah, like that's gonna last. I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on Legacy of the Void, I really hope it's released soon!!
For me, he just was a lot like the person I was trying to not be at the time. And since he died for me really early, I didn't have time to grow on him.
Words... are a big deal.

For me, Liars was kind of a "well, at least you're not a space racist" romantic option. I sacrificed her without hesitation.
My second Origins playthrough I was a female city elf with a bit of a violent streak. She romanced Alistair, but because I was trying to get all the achievements I made a decision that drove him away and out of the party. Because of that romance and the voice actor's performance, it was heart breaking.
I basically look at it as good storytelling, and I, too, am as straight as they come.

It's probably got a LOT more to do with Carth "wet blanket" Onasi than it does with Kaiden. That's my theory at least and I'm sticking to it.
Also, I am still delighted by the fact that if you DON'T romance Garus...
inactive here until further notice.
Is it just me or did Rob's Kaiden impression sound more like an elcor?
Edit: And it's Tali all the way. Jerks.
I wish you guys would stop encouraging him.

I got into Titanfall late and am still playing. I'm about ready to roll over to gen 3 now. Anyone playing on PC, feel free to add me on origin under mrtomaytohead. I usually play 2-4 nights a week for at least 2 rounds, but usually more.

Ori is probably my favorite game of the last few years so I'm happy to see you guys playing it. I'm now very curious of where Certis is stuck. Knowing the last area you "beat" would be helpful as the game is very metroidy. It is highly likely going to involve the latest ability you learned.
It does get quite a bit easier (far from easy though) as you gain more abilities, learn enemy patterns, and all the moves become second nature. Later in the game you start to roll through areas that gave you major problems before in a similar fashion to Dark Souls.
Edit: Oh, and I almost forgot. I haven't played it on XBox One but I have the "crappy pool game" on Steam and it's actually really well done. It has a lot of trick shot scenarios too.

The positive feedback on a previous podcast got me to buy Ori and, like EvilDead, I'm enjoying the continued conversation. There are some very difficult chapter endings and points where I wasn't sure how to proceed. More than once I thought, "Those Gamers never mentioned how hard this is. Do I truly suck so much?" I figured Jeff Green nailed it with, "Because old."
This week's discussion provided some consolation. The real reward came from finishing the game. The closing chapters provide a satisfying resolution to the story.
I found Rangris' play through helpful, especially with Youtube's preview available by hovering your mouse over the timeline. Find the video for your current map area and fast forward until you hit unfamiliar territory. From there, back up a few minutes and you should get the insight needed to continue.
Good stuff, Gamers. Thanks for the shows!

Ooohh, those chapter endings.... just brutal. At least they were very short and insta respawn really helps. Like the "Trials" games, or Super Meat boy for that matter, once you know what you need to do it gets much easier.
Mostly, I didn't like that when I played female protagonists (which is often) in Bioware games, the choice roster is often smaller and lesser than the male options. Kaidan's better than Ashley, but he's not better than Liara, and there's no male Liara counterpart (that MaleSheps can also romance). In one of my games, I got with Jacob, and that creep dumped me. Heck, Alistair dumped my ass as well, because I was an elf! That racist pig.

Thanks for reading my email guys (re: the SLI rig).
I'm considering getting a TitanX and giving the 2 x GTX980's away to family - they love upgrade time.
Rabbit, or anyone else who can chime in on the matter, you mentioned Ori and the Blind Forrest was like Princess Mononoke in the latest episode, in what ways? Mononoke is far and above my favourite film from Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (and I love most of his/their movies), so my ears really pricked up when I heard this.
I'd dive in without hesitation as your recommendations have always paid off for me, but time and money are a bit scant at the moment.

When I was at Blizzcon last year, we got the chance to sit down with one of the lead writers for SC2.
At that moment they said they're just going to patch it for a bit, but Chris wasn't sure if they wanted to do go down the SC3 route yet.

Re: good online gaming communities
Honestly, part of the reason I'm obsessed with Hearthstone is that there's no in-game communication. Keeps it fun and lighthearted (while I yell irl at my computer screen).

Really that seems to be the best way to make a game community work. Take away their ability to actually talk to each other. Take Shawn's example in Dark Souls, Bow, Kill, Bow. No ability to talk to the other person makes for a great multi player experience.
On both this episode and on DLC, Certis described the silent protagonist of Pillars of Eternity as "something of a cipher" and both times I thought he was just describing his class for a moment.

HATE that you pick a voice for your character at the beginning of Pillars....and then never hear it except grunts and things. Would it really have killed them to have those voice actors read the whole script? How much KS money did they get?

Well they would have to pay the actors, pay to rent the recording studio for all the dialogue, pay the audio engineer to edit and compress all that audio that's going to take up disk space.
Note I'm not sure how much dialogue is in the game total, but it sounds like this game has a lot of options.

Yeah, there are TONS of options. Classes have unique options. Races. Your country of origin. You dispositions. There are so many options, and the ability to just let the written word shine and keep the voice acting to specific moments for companions / NPC buys them a lot of flexibility. It is actually one of the things I love about the game. I think a voiced protagonist would actually detract a great deal from this particular game. The silent protagonist, though not ideal, is basically a small sacrifice that nets the game a lot of much bigger advantages.

Then don't let me choose a voice option at the start! Just Link it up with like one male voice and one female voice.
It's maddening to have taken the time to carefully and deliberately choose a voice, and then have the character be mute. Very fourth-wall breaking. Just get those 10-15 actors back together and voice it up. I'll back another Kickstarter. You know which protagonists should be mutes? The ones in books and comic books.

One note to add to the question of to buy or to not buy a board game: if you don't buy a board game that's new this week, chances are pretty darn good that it won't be available to buy next year.
As much as I love listening to Rabbitcon episodes, I hate hearing about awesome board games that I can't buy because it's out of print.
Passing on a Steam game until it's cheaper usually works (Deadpool notwithstanding) but a board game is expensive to make, and unless it runs away like Dominion did, it probably won't be around for long.
TLDR version: buy all the board games!

Tali for me, too.
I jumped in at ME2 and, unaware of the comic available to establish a save game from ME1, had no connection to any characters from the original. The mystery of the face behind the mask was intriguing so I pursued Tali. The payoff didn't come until ME3, but it remains my favorite 45 seconds of gaming.

I wish that always worked. Much regret.
edit: Wow, unbelievable! Motor Rock (an audio-copyright-infringing but updated remake of Blizzard's excellent 1993 SNES game, Rock n' Roll Racing) is still available on Steam, just not on the store. The final post (before I go thank him) on that NeoGaf page says he was able to buy a Steam key by paying $3 to the devs on their webpage. Since it uses Paypal and is only $3, I just gave it a shot. The key appeared successfully once I completed the Paypal transaction, entering the key in Steam added Motor Rock to my account, and I just played several races! The rear view is better than isometric.

That was me, not Wordsmythe.
Honestly, from an RP perspective, I found it very fitting to have Ashely sacrifice herself, and redeem her family's honor. Besides, the mission's priority was to safeguard the bomb, and Kaiden had the expertise to arm it. It seemed a no brainer to cover him while he prep'd it, ensuring we blew up the facility on Virmire.
Yeah, that was definitely not me. I don't hate Kaiden—I try not to hate in general—but I definitely let him take the fall on that mission, based on how I felt about the characters. (I later wished I'd gone the other way. Alas.)
Anyway, my memory is hazy about that mission. I didn't remember Kaiden being particularly skilled at the "not dying" side of the mission. Or maybe it was a skill that my Shep also had, so I figured he was expendable? I think my Shep had a lot of skill overlap with him.
Words... are a big deal.
Jill Lapore wrote:Editing is one of the great inventions of civilization.
No particular skills on the "not dying", but he's a Sentinel (both tech and biotic skills), whereas Ashley is a Soldier. He was clearly the more qualified. ^^
Also I adore him to bits, but I might've already said that.
Oh, right, I was also a Sentinel.
