I love those old covers. Often times it had nothing to do with the story inside, either.
This was also a classic type of cover from the good old days. Good guys attacking other good guys!

Anyone see the tribute DC did to Julis Schwartz, who died recently?
Schwartz was one of the big names back in the day, and was REALLY well know for the cover-driven comic. They took 8 titles (Batman, Mystery in Space, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Superman, The Flash, and The Atom) had one person draw a cover, and then had two separate stories from two separate teams inside. They just came out about 3 months ago, so you should be able to still find them if you''re interested. I know that at my comic book store, they''re still on the ""OOH, Look at ME"" shelf. Of course, the owner''s in LOVE with DC, so that may have something to do with it.
