I know that the left is very angry about the loss and all

This comic and these types of comics, articles, ect. are way over the line. If any type of republican would have published anything like this, it would be all over the media.
The racism that the far left has shown over the past four years is just nuts. My problem is that there has been no backlash from normal democrats and liberals over these portrals of Rice, Powell, Paige, and other black people in the Bush administration.
For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. ~Ron Shelton, Bull Durham, 1988

What part of that comic is racist?
Will we see an NAACP endorsement of Rice or at least a positive statement of a african-american female holding the position? How about outrage for these comics and comments? I wouldn''t hold my breath.
"We do not come in peace, we come ahead of peace to secure it's arrival by force of arms"
There''s certainly no respect for Rice in that cartoon, but there''s no racism either. It says something to me about the assumption that the cartoon is racist.
Though, I do agree that the cartoon isn''t very good.

1) That''s not racist. Those are two very good caricatures and a valid portrayal (from one viewpoint of many) of their relationship. This isn''t even as edgy as SNL''s Condi Rice stuff from the Janet Jackson episode.
2) There is no line, and the minute people start calling for a line in political commentary, we need to reread the Bill of Rights.
3) Some say that the sense of humor is the first thing to go. [voice=LarryTheCableGuy]I don''t care who you are, that''s funny right there.[/voice]

The carton is to the point, but indeed not particularly tasteful. Nothing in it seems to be screaming ""racist"" though. Doesn''t have anything to do with the ""left being angry at the loss"" either.
Or, Ulairi, if you''re upset just by the fact that a black person in general is featured in a caricature AT ALL, then perhaps your platform isn''t far from NAACP''s

Read between the lines. My comment isn''t about race, its a quip about the leanings of the organization I mentioned in comparison. If Rice was in a democratic administration, we would certainly see more applause. My question in fairness is that it is absent in this case.
"We do not come in peace, we come ahead of peace to secure it's arrival by force of arms"
Uhh.... there was a LOT of back-patting 4 years ago when W assembled such a diverse cabinet. I know he likes to stay on message, but we heard it in 2000.

Rice wouldn''t be in a Democratic administration, not at a cabinet level, so there goes the first plank of your argument.
And as for fairness; what about the far (loony) right equating Kerry with Satan?
All bets are off, I''d say, as far as fiarness goes.

Political satire, yes. Good/Amusing? Eh, not really. Racist? Give me a break.

I''m sorry but you are wrong. The caricature is a hostoric view of black people of being bucked tooth, the hair, the eyes, the lips. The way the english is spoken. It is certianly racist but since it is against an uncle tom, I guess it is ok.
Compare the outrage of what Rush Limbaugh said to the cartoons and articles of today.
If that was a conservative cartoon about..Obama, there would be a huge outrage.

See that''s the thing-any two people can see it differently. I thought the ""speech"" in cartoon was more ""yes"" man than amos and andy.
And face it, Condi has a big grill. That''s a normal caracature for her.

1. I certainly hope you didn''t take the the comment about Rice being in a democratic administration literally. Its a comparison.
Doonsebury has Bush refering to Rice as ""Brown Sugar"" today. Another has a parody of her bottle feeding a aluminum tube commenting ""I don''t know nothin bout feedin no tubes"" in the New York Post.
Thats not demeaning and deragatory to a African American with a Ph.D?
What if we refered to the head of Congressional Black Caucus as a big lipped lackey parrot to a president Clinton rather than respecting him in his role or accomplishments as a person. Then yes, there would be calls of racism. The first ""plank"" of my argument thusly stands.
2. Please clarify your ""moral"" I certainly hope you aren''t misdirecting my comments as fearful or hate filled. Frankly thats inaccurate and rash if that is the case.
3. Kerry being equated to Satan is unfortunate and tasteless, but not relevant to the situation at hand. A syndicated political catoonist is not in the same saturation and level of broadbased reflection as a singular opinion example. Show me the New York Times political comic with Kerry bearing horns and then I''ll accept it as equal.

Here is the cartoon about her with the tubes.
Also, a NY Times reporter said that Condi got the job because she is sleeping with Bush.

Are you sure about this? She served for Bush Sr. and may have been around early in the administration.
If they could have had a democrat with her history and resume, they would have.

Well that''s more sexist than racist, don''t you think?
You might want to go look at her smile sometime. She DOES have buck teeth.. As Mateo said it''s an acurate caracture of her.
Frankly I think your grasping at straws here looking for a morally outrageous reason to use as a denounciation of the political comic rather then just on the idea Rice isn''t a Bush lapdog.

Does not seem raicist really. Hits more on the ''yes-man'' quality that most believe she will become in that position.

Just to jump on the bandwagon, that is a very good caricature of Condi, and about the same as the ""costume"" that Janet Jackson ""wore"" on SNL. She does have big lips, she is incredibly bucktoothed, and she is a yes-man in the public eye.
If you can find it, do check out the Condi skit that Janet Jackson did on SNL, or just look for a pic of it. Just because you make fun of or exaggerate someone''s features(caricature) doesn''t mean you are being racist. This is nothing like the old ""blackface"" comics of old. Not. Even. Close.

She was. She left in 1993, became Provost of Standford for 6 years, then became and advisor to the Military on inter-gender issues sometime in 1997. No mention of what she was doing 1999-2001, although my impression was that she was working with the NSC by then.

Not really, it is racist before sexist since the quote it draws on a parody is used in some circles to show ""dumb black folks"" based on the famous Gone with the Wind quote. If they wanted to claim she was dumb, they could have chosen something that doesn''t have direct links to a perspective of African Americans from a 1930''s film of the south during the Civil War. You would think the mere association would be enough to make them shy away from the parody considering the sensitivity and debate often associated with the issue.
At the very least, its just a foolish cheap shot.
"We do not come in peace, we come ahead of peace to secure it's arrival by force of arms"
Fully agreed. I''ve seen way better caricature takes on Bush than the one in the picture linked above, but I really had to laught about Condi there. Nice one, and not any more or less racist than any other caricature you can find in your average newspaper. Unless you''re overly sensitive.
Ulairi,
Though we disagree on alot of issues in this forum, I consider you a smart guy. However, I think you''re stretching here a bit.
If you look hard enough for something, you''ll find it.
My thoughts are: tasteless? Yes. Racist? Probably not intentionally.
There is no doubt that Bush''s nomination of Rice to State implies that he intends to run a tight ship when it comes to foreign policy. She is one of the few people that he probably trusts in that role, simply because she is a conservative that agrees with him.
I didn''t think it was funny, but I also didn''t think it was too far off base.
"It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem." - Malcolm Forbes
Sorry, Ulairi, this is a case of seeing what you want to see. You don''t like liberals and increasingly Democrats - not just the ideas, but increasingly the people themselves it seems - so you seem to imagine the worst you can imagine. That''s fine, I don''t fault you for it. I certainly can be accused of having done the same for conservatives.
*edit* It occurs to me that this can be read as really snide. Not my intent.
"I think Elysium has the right of it" - Certis
She''s being caricatured as a parrot, not an Uncle Tom. That''s why she has feathers and talons.
As far as the Gone with the Wind quote, I didn''t get that, but I''ve never made it all the way through that movie. I definitely got parrot, though.

I was talking about this part:
Ummm.. they drew her like that as an EXAGGERATION of how she looks. If you see a profile of her yes her teeth do stick out and her lips do as well. It is a CARICATURE and political caricatures always exaggerate features.
