<Troll> Halo 2 got higher </Troll>

Really, I don''t see much competition between Halo 2 and Half-Life 2. Halo 2 has good, even ""really good"" single player, but the focus is on multiplayer. Half-Life 2 apparently has ""great"", even perhaps ""all-time great"" single-player, but the only multiplayer to speak of is a repackage of a game that got old 6 years ago.

The focus of each game is totally different. Halo 2 will continue to be my online vice, and Half-Life 2 will be a single-player game that probably rocks my world.

I think you''ve missed an even bigger reason that they are different markets - platform. They simply are not direct competitors.

Why would they use a video card that''s a generation old, then throw in 2 gig of RAM?

I wondered about that too. The strange thing was the guy continually referred to the box as a high-level machine. I mean the 9800 Pro isn''t a bad vid card but it certainly isn''t top of the line.

Are you two into trying new things?

Half-Life 2 is, simply put, the best single-player shooter ever released for the PC.

At least they aren''t just piling loads of fuel on the hype wagon.

Many of the people who take these two to war do have both platforms.

Halo 2 and Killzone are competitors, even though they''re on different platforms. Many of those millions and millions of Xboxes and PS2s are in the same households, and an awful lot of people are snubbing Killzone in favor of Halo 2. There''s a reason Killzone bore the ""Halo Killer"" name, despite being on a completely different platform.

Granted, console-vs.-console is a bit different than PC-vs.-console, but there''s a reason so much is being spit back and forth by people over these two games.

Ok so someone tell me when will I be able to unlock HL2 on my PC? Midnight tonight? Or do I have to wait for some magic hour on tuesday?

Midnight, PST. So yes, midnight tonight.

Two o''clock tonight, my time. There''s no way I can stay up. It won''t be until tomorrow night before I can boot this puppy up. My throat is legitimately scratchy, though....

Awesome. Now can someone point me to a site where I can synchronize my clock with the official Valve release clock?

Midnight PST...

I wonder, if you listen very closely, can you hear the sound of the internet screaming in terror? Or maybe just Valve''s servers begging for mercy...

Steady gents, surely we can''t be bowled over by purest spin so late in the day. Let us expect a little disappointment and overblown claims of perfection and enjoy it from a more reasonable perspective.

In fact I propose you all hold off downloading it for at least 3 wee.... YAAUGHHH!!

That is just on the internet. I doubt anyone is going to go out and buy any platform for one game, only one game, if they weren''t planning on it already.

A lot of these ""game X killer"" comes from viral marketing, which is the tool of the devil.

Which versions are going to have the HL1 port integrated? Are they coming out tomorrow too? Will they cost more?

Probably because it''s a developer machine. If you''re designing levels for games, the amount of RAM becomes much more important than video card performance.

All is revealed. The Collector''s Edition is the only store copy that will have HL1: Source.
