Is it just me, or did the forum just get flooded with Halo 2 talk? I usually don't bother with these kinds of games, but if this keeps up, I'll have to check it out myself... And where do you stand on this?

Huh. This should be a 2-part question in my opinion. The single-player is very good, and is boosted by the inclusion of co-op, but the multiplayer (especially over X-Box Live) is positively exceptional and near-perfect.

I never ownded an SNES, N64, NES, Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast, or any Atari product. I''m pretty much just going to stick with my PS2, until I moved to Japan and then it all about the PS6-Mach40 (you know they will have that out in 4 years).

It''s not as good as the first one. I''ve only played single player, and it has been good. The first one was the first game I played on the X-box and it really defined the system for me (and I''m sure many others).

I''m glad I didn''t buy the hype and wait in line at midnight or pre-order it. The hype was way too much.

I''ll finish it, but it won''t have me addicted to it like the first one.

I''ve heard a bunch of people say this and I just don''t get it. It''s like Halo1, just more improved and polished in most respects.

The vehicles may feel a little bit more floaty than the vehicles in Halo1.

The architecture in Halo2 is fascinating, and the engine does a very impressive job of drawing huge spaces.

There is some repetition of space in the game, but it feels tolerable to me. A lot of spaces are doubled, but it feels like something you could reasonably expect in the real world, versus Halo1''s crude cut''n''paste job.

Like Halo1, the story doesn''t quite have as compellingly written a story as the Marathon games, but Halo2''s story does feel more coherent than Halo1''s.

Disappointed that it doesn''t offer SystemLink co-op.

All in all, I think it''s an impressive refinement of the experience from Halo1. I wonder what they''ll do on Halo3 (guessing it will probably be a year two XboxNext title) to expand on the experience further?

Wouldn''t be surprised if they port the Halo2 engine over to the XboxNext platform, add in higher res textures, HDTV resolutions, a few more levels, and market it as a launch title called Halo2.5 or somesuch.

I agree that it has better graphics and the play is less repetative. It''s an improvement in that respect from the original. The story is deeper and more rounded in all respects. And don''t get me wrong really like the game.

But, the first one really gave me an emotional reaction. I loathed the Covenent! I even avoided using their weapons when I could. The game was wonderful in the way it pulled the player into this strange world and let them really feel it.

The new one doesn''t do that for me. It may not be fair to hold Halo2 to that level, but that is how I see it.

I loved the first one, but nothing compared to the love I have for this one. I haven''t finished it yet but it blew my mind so far.

SPOILER ALERT

The Heretic chapter (I''m still in it) blew me away, I wasn''t expected this at all. Awesome twist. Not much to add. Not so bad for a spoiler huh?

The other annoyance with co-op now is that it doesn''t support a horizontal screen split in widescreen. I like playing in widescreen for the greater width of view (99% of the combat takes place on the same plane). If you have widescreen on, it does a vertical split automatically, giving each player the regular 4:3 view. I don''t care what is up or down, I want more vision to the sides.

There is no menu option to change this, you have to go to the Xbox dashboard and disable widescreen, which will then force the game to a horizontal split with the reduced peripheral view of the 4:3 ratio.

Love the game. It''s completely absorbed 90% of my time since I bought it. I beat the singleplayer already on normal. Going to play through on Legendary in Co-Op.

Multiplayer is absolute perfection. I''ve probably sunk 20 hours into the multiplayer already.

Yeah, put me in with the absolutely loving it crowd. I spent my whole Sunday on xbox live with y''all and it was great fun. I am having a hard time getting into the campaign. I think that part of the reason is that I just can''t pull myself away from the multiplayer. And the plasma sword rules

The single player is really cool, much better than the first. I''m actually not bored to tears by the levels, thinking of the library from the first game makes me shudder.

The multiplayer, however, is perfect. This is the best multiplayer game on the XBox. It''s been a snap to start up a game with my brother and some friends and just hang out and play for a while. And when they aren''t on, it''s nice to pop into matches with the clan, even though I get destroyed when I do that, at least the people aren''t knobs.

It''s a good game on the xbox. For me tho it doesn''t compare to the better shooters on the pc (don''t get me started. ) And if this were on the pc it would be labeled an xpac and be sold for $20-$30 less.

Well I know the Xbox killed your dog lately Triple but I''m gonna bite, I''d like to get you started just for the hell of it. Better shooter[s] on the PC? I''d be curious to know what games on the PC are so superior to Halo 2, controls aside. I mean, I really enjoyed Far Cry and Doom 3 but to me, it doesn''t even come close to this one.

Half-Life 2 on the other hand... sooo close!

That $20-$30 less remark was a bit on this side though buddy.

Multiplayer is very good; only tarnished by lack of cohesive play. That''s a problem with all multiplayer internet games, sadly, so I can''t lay the fault on Bungies doorstep.

What''s needed is a game and reward system that punishes rambo players and rewards, through extra ammo, overshield or something, teamwork and strategising.

Well, I finished the game yesterday... and on my scale it went from good to great. I still have small gripes about it like I would like to see Halo1 Assault Rifle,
boss fights
, etc... and the fact that there are no 15 levels in the game. Everything else was great to the end!

I spent 5 hours playing Legendary on co-op, still in the first level... 25% through.

I like Halo2. I voted good game in the poll. It''s a solid game.

But if you''ve played battlefield 1942 or Joint Ops or Unreal 2k4 or FAr Cry or soon to be released half-life 2 or raven shield or the older pc shooters like quake or duke nukem 3d etc then it''s hard to put Halo2 out there like it''s the second coming. Maybe for xbox owners it is tho.

And the xpac thing, looking at it objectively, not taking anything away from the game itself, it would be an xpac on the pc. It''s really like Halo 1.5.

I''m guessing tho it took them 3 yrs to make this cause at the same time they were making Halo 3.

Wow, a triple post... I think that''s a first!

Halo 2 is a solid game. I disagree with the ""xpac/Halo 1.5"" assertion though. It''s a sequel in every sense of the word. They redid the engine to allow larger areas, it''s a continuation of the original''s story, and they added many new features, the most important of which is very solid online play. I''d say that''s a sequel in the very least. All that being said, I think the whole plot is a little cheesy this time around. They''ve pulled back the curtain of the Covenant, and they''re not nearly as mysterious and sinister as I thought after the first game. Instead, they''re an in-fighting common alien species with a dark-age philosophy. And, why is it that bad guy aliens *always* have gurgly British accents? My wife was in the same room while I was playing the campaign yesterday, and couldn''t help but laugh at the game''s cutscenes. Yeah, kinda cheesy. I liked the Covenant much more when they were mysterious and not so cookie-cutter.

Even still, the game is fun, engrossing, and well done for the most part. Well worth my money.

I''ve played every single game on your list (only the demo of Joint Ops though) and I still prefer both Halo 1 and 2, by far. To each his own.

yeah not sure what happened to the submit thing.

Anyway take off your Master Chief pajamas and climb down outta your Convenant bunk beds. The two halos together would be a game and an xpac on the pc. An xpac usually tweaks the graphics, adds another sp story and also adds some multi maps and some gameplay tweaks. That''s basically Halo 2. Now yeah Halo 2 added online play but seeing as most pc games have online to start with I see the two Halos combined as a game and an xpac.
