Fire Emblem: Awakening

Pages

I didn't see a thread yet about this and it comes out next week.

I have it preordered and I am quite excited. Finally a new Fire Emblem game on the 3DS.

Here is the first review I have seen. Gametrailers link. If you just can't wait to know; they loved it. It looks to be a great game in the franchise.

Just a quick correction: this is a 3DS game, not a DS game.

Otherwise, yeah, I'm excited. This'll be my first Fire Emblem game.

Monday cannot come soon enough. Been way too long since the last Fire Emblem game.

I saw this thread was made by farley and though that there was a Fire Emblem movie being made.

Fixed. Thanks.

Looks awesome, sadly no 3DS.

I remembered loving Fire Emblem *except* for the permadeath thing resulting in resetting battles over and over. So go go Casual mode!

It's getting great reviews so far. Also, the guys at 8-4 Play did the localization

Your first?!? Oh man, are the GBA ones available on the eStore yet? If so, you gotta get them, they're really good. And go get a copy of Shadow Dragon!

I've got The Sacred Stones as part of the ambassador program, but I've had a hard time getting into it since Nintendo made the head-scratching decision for GBA games to not suspend when you close the lid.

And I think Shadow Dragon is now ridiculously expensive on the second-hand market. Much rather just get the new hotness.

I've got this pre-ordered. I haven't really gotten into a srpg since Shining Force 1 and 2, and I played through Fire Emblem Path of Radiance over the holidays and got the same vibe from it. I ordered Radiant Dawn and am looking forward to playing this when it drops. Maybe this will get me to finally go back and beat FFT as well.

It is expensive, $60 is the lowest I've seen it. Maybe it'll come to the eShop sometime, it's my favorite so far, though Sword of Flame (the first non-Japan FE game) is close behind it. Sacred Stones had a slower start, though it picked up later on.

GBA games don't suspend? Words fail me, especially since they did on the DS.

Hopefully the digital release of Awakening keeps the second-hand prices from getting too insane.

Speaking of which: anyone else planning to get this through the eShop? (I think I'm now legally obligated to mention that there are benefits and drawbacks to buying digital content on the 3DS and that adults should make an informed decision before purchasing.)

Yeah, it was a really bizarre decision. Really makes it obvious that their GBA emulator just wasn't ready for prime time but got booted out the door for the ambassador program.

Still no 3DS, but this is another game pushing me towards it.

I'm buying physical until the unified accounts roll out, but I might switch over when that happens.

I think almost certainly the digital release of Awakening will ensure that it doesn't reach the insane prices of prior FE games. That's my guess at least, but the evidence points to it still being a valuable game, since Sacred Stones (not only an eShop game but part of the Ambassador program as mentioned) is $70 on Amazon. Maybe it just needs time to drop in price? I dunno.

I really liked the stack options in the demo, so I'm excited to play with that more. I'm also a huge fan of the expanded co-operation between units on the field. The relationship systems in the previous games were never enough to warrant having a Cleric sitting beside your front-line Knight on the battlefield, but that's totally changed now.

This line of thinking gets my stamp of approval.

I'm stoked. Reviews are tremendously positive, and from the demo I can see why - it seems like a meatier experience than the series has traditionally been, in terms of customization and depth of systems.

I just hope I'm able to get my copy. Having no interest in the artbook, I pre-ordered from Amazon... only to have them begin rowring about a possible shipping delay at about the sametime Gamestop stopped taking pre-orders. I could just digital download it... but... but.... I like my book, box, and cart.

Looking forward to getting this as well. Got two copies from amazon - one for me, one sent to a friend. I hope they ship when they're supposed to. I read something about local co-op, which I've had a blast with in the past.

Art book?!? Where is there an art book?

Gamestop was offering them for pre-orders; I think it was pre-order exclusive for them only: http://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-3ds/games/fire-emblem-awakening/106383#bonusFeatures

Ah, well as much as I like an art book, I have an unbreakable rule of not giving GameStop money.

I found Shadow Dragon for $20 today.

So I will, unfortunately, not be purchasing Awakening for quite a while, but I'm still very happy.

I am. By getting it digitally I guarantee I have it on my system at all times, and this is a game I can see my self replaying a few times.

I'll be listening to this a lot over the weekend:

and this one is a really cool progression of the recruitment theme through time:

EDIT: Hmm, shipping delays from Amazon may push me to buy this on the eShop after all. I'd rather wait until the unified accounts are rolled out, but as long as those are going to come soon I might be OK with buying this.

Anybody know how large it is? I only have the 4GB card that came with my XL.

EDIT 2: Apparently the answer is almost 8600 blocks, or just shy of 1GB. Glad to know I can download it, sad to know that it's 25% of my free space.

3DS memory cards are a little more reasonable than the Vita's

Damn, I have just 2,500 blocks open. Maybe it's time to follow-through on my plan to buy a 16 GB SD card for this thing. At least memory's cheap.

I'm looking forward to this. I have my fondest memories of Fire Emblem from the GBA games. For some reason I just blew threw the DS one (Shadow Dragon) in a few weeks and then put it away. It seems like with the DS there were so many great games I would just chug through games to move on to the next one.

Yes, but I'd rather not have to buy a new card at all, considering the only thing I've put on mine so far is a few Theatrhythm songs and the FE demo.

Hmm, though I should consider the possibility that I may want to transfer to a bigger card in the future. Will copying data between SD cards on a PC upset the 3DS, or is that the prescribed way to do data transfers?

That's how you're supposed to do it.

Oh good, well that's easy then. Yeah, I think I'll chance it, considering there's no pre-order bonus from Amazon, I'd have to pay tax (man, I miss the old days of no-tax Amazon), and it might arrive late.
