from what people have seen of WOW and played in the full Everquest 2, what is everyone swaying to? I've got in the WOW open beta but havent played Everquest 2 yet. Have many of you out there played them both?
I''m playing both right now, if I had to pick one I would pick WoW but its pretty close. There are tons of opinions on this in other threads I believe.
I like EQ2 much better, personally, but it is all personal choice to be sure. I think the world looks a lot better and is more immersive. I like the crafting system and the quest system. If I were to guess, I would say WoW is more friendly to the people just now getting into MMOGs and EQ is more of a mature game that doesn''t walk you through as much.
What amazes me is how good both games are. I don''t really see a ""VS"" except for personal preferences. Whether it be artstyle or gameplay (solo or grp). It''s nice to see two quality products on the market.
Yeah both games are excellent. I am having a blast playing EQ2, its just hard to find good people to group with *ahem*. But if I had to pick I would pick EQ2, the interface issues I mentioned before have been cleared up (you can resize and move every window) and I have it tweaked the way I want it. There''s also some cool mods coming down the pipeline for the UI as well.
I have played both as well, but am leaning towards EQ2 for my long term commitment most likely. WoW is incredible in many ways, but so is EQ 2. I think EQ2 is more unique as far as character aspects go and the class system is pretty darn cool as is the crafting system. EQ 2 is less newbie friendly, but is easily overcome if you read the manual and the online help while WoW shouldnt even ship with a manual it is rthat well done in the beginning. I would say EQ2 is less rail driven and more open ended - less guidance as far as activity goes. EQ2 has a phenomenal amount of rewarding quests - I think I have done about 50 and have barely made lvl 13 and have hardly scratched the surface. It really is a matter of preference. I have enjoyed both of them to date.

ok I''m currently playing both, EQ2 looks wonderfull, I''m playing it 1900x1200 with a good level of detail on, its awesome. There''s always something to do with more of a story than WOW. and i have to say WOW at the moment graphicly is inferior, by a long way. although the fighting system in EQ2 could use a little work its not too bad, but WOW is easier to fight and manouver. However even tho I''ve only been playing for about 8 hours I think EQ2 has the nod for now. Trouble is can i resist buying WOW aswell.....
and i have to say WOW at the moment graphicly is inferior, by a long way.
I think that needs to be qualified, since EQ2 and WoW aren''t going for the same thing graphically. WoW doesn''t want to look realistic, where EQ2 does. The scenery and vistas in WoW are absolutely stunning if you aren''t looking for realism. I spent an hour doing griffon rides just to see the treetops yesterday!
I like WoW''s graphics better than EQ2. Although EQ2 certainly looks more realistic and much more detailed, the art direction in WoW is unparalleled. It just has a feeling of grandeur and continuity that EQ2 doesn''t have. The world feels so much more alive to me than what I''ve experienced in EQ2. EQ2 also runs like a dog on my computer with much of the detail turned off (especially in the city) while WoW is very smooth with most of the detail turned on.
I have only played EQ2 for seven or eight hours so I probably need to give it more of a chance. My gut feeling is this however: If you want a quick learning curve, great action and don''t have an uber rig, play WoW. If you enjoy more detail, customization and adventure, then play EQ2.
At this point there is no doubt in my mind that I will be playing WoW over EQ2.
WoW graphics are incredible...the quality of their art and textures simply kills any screenshots of seen of EQ..
But the art direction is radically different.. so some people who prefer a different style of art will infer that EQ2''s graphics are better than WoW when in reality they are not...just simply using a more realistic style of graphics.
Both have very good graphic''s though... I prefer the more fantastic and cartoon style of WoW.. .it will also allow Blizzard to create some truely fantastic vista''s over the next few years.. It''s alot easier to pull off grand designs with WoW style of art and graphics than it will be for EQ2.
So far though..the Dungeons need some work... I hope Blizzard makes some really cool sprawling dungeons with entire towns and civilizations in there.. (if they havent allready)
I suspect with the first expansion we''ll get an underground race who has such a place..
Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter
I''m totally into the crafting system. I never was a crafter before, in fact hated it.
EQ2 lets me do fun adventuring and crafting stuff. Will it last, no idea but just getting me interested says alot to me.

GG is right on - WoW definitely has a more cartoony and stylish graphical perspective and will run fine on a non-uber rig. I believe the graphics overall default to EQ2 for sheer flash, but WoW by far is more stylish... I think EQ2 is the ""deeper"" game and will appeal to the more hardcore ""hours at a time"" gamer as opposed to WoW where you can jump in and jump out and still have fun... That being said I think EQ2 took some lines from WoW''s playbook and has really made some progress in the ""jump in and jump out"" fun perspective... I think it will honestly fall into a personal preference as far what game you will play... Jump in and play both and see where you fall....

I think I''ll be playing WoW until it gets boring (which may not take long, if things remain as they are), and then switch over to EQ2 for more challenge when we get a rig that can handle it.
Yesterday my wife and I played EQ2 for quite a while and got both of our characters up to level 10. We are playing on Everfrost in case anyone else is on that server and my characters name is Thayne, also have a level 10 sorcerer on Mistmoor in Freeport named Raksha that I play when the wife is doing something else. Anyways something I noticed last night is that fighting groups of two blues yielded much more experience compared to fighting a single orange con. This also made the fights a lot more exciting as it was a bit different than the usual party ganging up on one monster thing that most MMORPG''s feature. I also noticed groups of up to five or six monsters these look like they could be pretty interesting to tackle with a larger group of people.
They have something called encounter experience. You get xp for each kill but when you kill the special clusters of monsters you get additional xp. (it tells in the combat spam)

Stric9 you should have joined Oasis , seems like quite a few people are moving to that server. Sephirah and I played for a while last night and had a blast; although at one point he got addicted to heroic moves and let me die since he is a healer.

But I just made Cleric on a different server! I don''t know if I have the intestinal fortitude to do all those Fedex Quests again. I may just wait for WoW.

WoW has two guys (who since yesterday) in our TS named Enos and Haus. I have no idea who they are but listening to their middle school reviews of the game and their actions for about 4 hours yesterday was almost more fun than me trying to get 8 murloc fins in RR.

I mean no disrespect either, now I know what my middle school health teacher wife puts up with all day.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
Hmm I don''t think my wife would like the idea of moving to another server and starting new characters but I could re-make my solo character over there.

If you do Stric9 give me, Fiin, or SpyNavy, Spynavius, a tell and we can get you in the guild when you get to Qeynos.
Zedian and I had lots of fun last night. We figured out some of the two person Heroic opportunities, (which is what I was doing when I should have been healing him, but hey...pretty red lightning...) and we got a good combo down where he would bust out with 26 damage in one swing of his sword. I love the Heroic Opportunity system. It''s yet another reason to work together.

It seems like it needs some work, it was done much better in FFXI where they were called skill chains. The problem I think is that everyone in a party is using skills or spells constantly so the chains are interrupted almost every time. In FFXI you would do melee skills in a certain order to achieve a specific effect that was of a certain element, usually you would want to do an effect of the element opposite to the monster you were fighting to cause the most damage. Then a spell caster could cast a spell of the same element at the time of the effect that would cause his spell to do 3 or 4 times the amount of damage it would normally do. The way EQ2 does it with the skills and spells all mixed into the chain the problem is if someone needs a heal and the healer heals in the middle of the chain it breaks the chain. They really need to seperate the process a bit so you can actually finish the chains.
PS: Why do we have an EQ vs Wow and a Wow vs. EQ thread, lets lock one of these bad boys up so we can all post in the same thread.
