I will take Leoric of the Book with the Necromancer class.

We need some mystic know-how in the middle of all this brawn.

And apparently I'll be starting on K10?

Welcome Leoric to the team!

Unless my count is incorrect, we now have our four heroes! Let the encounter commence!

As you are traveling toward Arhynn, you come across the still-smoldering remains of a traveling caravan. One of the caravan guards, wearing the livery of Baron Greigory, lies wounded nearby. "An ambush," he gasps. "That ettin is sending his minions straight into Arhynn through the secret path! How could he have known?"

Ahead, you see the lumbering, two-headed form of an ettin. "He said his name was Mauler. You must stop him!"

Mauler's goblin minions are taking a secret route to attack Arhynn, Baron Griegory's seat. If too many of his goblins escape off the far side of the trail, Mauler will have triumphed over you. Your goal is to kill him before that happens.

Heroes, it is your turn! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Are there TWO ettins??!

Hmm. Perchance we might ponder this "Baron Griegory" person, and whether we have, as they say, a kobold in this fight.

;-)

Aye, two ettins. The one in red is Mauler, and has 8 extra hit points on top of his 8 for 16 total hit points.

Alright! Nice to see we are all here! Now just a little rules refresh. Who of the heroes goes first and what is the player order for the heroes?

Whatever you guys decide! Anybody can go first and take their two actions. Just need to finish your turn before the next person takes theirs.

If anybody wants a copy of the rule book, Fantasy Flight Games posted it here.

Glad to see we are all thinking really hard about this...

Avric decides to go and search the wagon for any good loot before the fight begins. But what's that? A trap is sprung!

The Awareness test passes! Overlord draws a card according to Poison Dart.

Now onto the search.

After dodging the dart from the debris, Avric hastily searches the broken wagon for anything useful, and he finds...A Cursed Doll!

Exciting first turn. Now who's up next?

Laurel moves to G6 and attacks Mauler with her short bow.

C'mon, first blood...

Laurel runs up into the crossroads in order to get a clear shot on the monster known as Mauler. She pulls back her bow and...

Laurel scores a direct hit on Mauler for 3+1 damage! The +1 is for Laurel's innate ability as the range was more than necessary to hit Mauler.

First blood has been drawn.

Next?

Hmm...all of your embedded images are broken for me. Just me, or did something get screwed up?

Things still look good from here. They're Dropbox links so if you have issues with those (let's say from a workplace) that might be the issue...

That is indeed the issue. Luckily I know how to work around that.

Leoric moves to H7 and casts Raise Dead to place a Reanimate on space I6. The Reanimate immediately attacks the Goblin on space J6.

Leoric, seeing an opening in front of the pack of Goblins, rushes into the fray. Unfortunately, he wasn't watching where he was running...

Rolling against Awareness, the dice show...

Leoric trips over the wire strewn slightly off the ground and is barely able to steady himself against the wall. Leoric fails his Awareness check! His move action ends.

Leoric has one action left for his turn.

Leoric curses all infernal traps and conniving jackanapes, then casts Raise Dead on H8.

Leoric, looking around the battlefield, notices a dead guard laying beside him. Expelling some effort, Leoric reanimates the dead guard with the spark of life.

It is now the Reanimate's turn.

I believe the only thing the Reanimate can do when first activated is melee attack. Since there is nothing within range, the Reanimate is forced to pass until next turn.

You are mistaken as I understand it. The Reanimate gets its full turn.

Reanimate moves to I6 and attacks goblin at J6.

Whoops, forgot to flip my activation card over.

There we go.

Sorry I am being slow with this guys. I think I am having a hard time visualizing the current board state after everyone else's moves and am not sure where I can go. I think I can get up there and hit a goblin but that would most likely open me up to getting hit by the ettins so it might make more since to just get in front of our guys but not close enough to get hit.

All you had to do was ask.

Sorry I was feeling dumb.

Ok so I am not 100% on the rules but it looks like I can shimmy on up to I5 and smack one of those Goblins right? Was one injured or more likely to kick the bucket, I want to finish that one off if possible.

Yep, as your character sheet shows, you have 4 movement points (number next to the boot). With that, you can move to I5 as diagonal moves still count as 1.

The goblin on J6 actually dead (I was reading the red hit points, not the yellow when I did that, oops!) so here's the new layout.

Do you want to move to I5 and hit the goblin on J5?

Reanimate deals 3 damage to the goblin and kills it!

Next up!

Then lets amend that to have Syndrael move to J6 and attack the K6.

Syndrael, seeing a gap in the enemy line, charges in to attack the next target. She swings and...

The goblin, caught unaware, feebly attempt to deflect the swing...

IMAGE(https://dl.dropbox.com/s/rri3aptssxz6vlm/grey-2.png)

Syndrael does 4 points of damage to the goblin, killing it!

Unless anybody has anything else they'd like to do (powers, etc) the Overlord will be taking their turn.

I'll be taking my turns one creature at a time to give others time to react. (Example, Laurel's Nimble skill)

Let me know if you have any questions!

Current layout:

I'm sure he has no cards left now. You're welcome.

Gravey wrote:

I actually got two left, but those were definitely the best ones in my hand. Just a real bummer about that defense roll.

Don't worry though, you're not out of it! Somebody can easily stand you up or you can spend your turn to stand yourself up.

One question - should Leoric's hero ability have factored into Mauler's attack? If "within three spaces" is counted akin to movement, Mauler's presence at H6 is within 3 spaces of Leoric, and his 8 damage attack becomes 7 damage (-1 heart). If the "within 3 spaces" has to be traced orthogonally, then never mind.
