GWJ Plays XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Section:

Freelancer Rob Zacny and Shawn Andrich play some XCOM multiplayer and discuss the finer points of the game. The video finishes out with some single player footage while they wrap up the discussion. Watch as team GWJ demolishes an alien attack!

Bummer about the network issues. Still looked like a ton of fun though!

Good thing I wasn't planning on playing Multiplayer.

I'm liking these Let's Plays.

I was watching this and I couldn't help thinking that I would like to see a Dawn of War version of XCom.

This.

It reminds me a lot of Frozen Synapse, except more everything.

Re: UI controls requiring extra clicks at around the 5 minute mark. There are keyboard shortcuts for skills like Overwatch so you don't need to use the UI. You can also just double click the icon or double tap the key listing under the icon.

I'm enjoying these videos as well. Hope they become a regular feature. Really gives you a feel for a game, like TotalBiscuit's videos.

This was great! Plus the 360 version sounds rock solid...and Not just because of the controller;)--thanks!

360 demo not up in Europe yet. Boo!

GWJ video up. Yay!

Very nice video. I think I'll need to buy this when I have more time on my hands.

Any chance GWJ Plays could become a video podcast I could subscribe to? I'd love to be able to watch them at my leisure, and right now my free time is on the subway.

It's definitely on the list.

I dig the the lets play. One for the single player is needed.

I'm picturing myself or Julian playing a mission, and Certis judging our every move aloud, saying things like "if you had had this two weeks before release, you'd know that was a stupid move."

Quoting this for the complete ultimate win.

They had a turn-based Xcom-like ages ago that wasn't bad. The name escapes me. Long story short... that game could use a similar make-over.

Really nice video. It whet my anticipation prior to launch day quite nicely.

Just wanted to say that I really like these videos so far. Waiting on xcom to install to my 360 right now.

Thanks Edwin! Yes I was thinking about Chaos Gate. Good to see such a list. Space Hulk was great for its time.

Liking these "Let's Play".

Game looks like a lot of fun.
Some instances of where the game doesn't behave as one would expect makes me a little wary eg. sniper on top of the bus not covering or some line of sight issues. It seems to have some issue managing the 3rd dimension a little in terms of LOS or cover.

Placement on that bus top is a definite factor. In the video, Rob's sniper is all the way at the back of the bus by the ladder. I've put a sniper farther forward on that bus and had no trouble firing across the map. Or maybe this just something that was fixed between the beta and release build. Either way, the lack of cover up there is a problem.

I really like the "let's play" videos. In this one, Shawn sold me on using the 360 controller for X-Com just from watching how it plays. The videos provide context for the podcast discussions as well. I'm looking forward to more of them.

Great news.
