I think you covered everything. I was going to ask about cars that begin with Mitsubishi and end with MR but I see you got it. What an awesome car, one day it will be mine. Yes in real life not in Gran Turismo
Why is it that all ""upscale"" or ""sporting coupe""s design by USian corpsorations either look like Pimpmobiles, or some sort of Granny''s Hot Rod (which is a picture I''d rather not have in my head right now)?
Blech.

Is that yellow car at the tail end of round 1 a Lotus Elise? If so, any word on when those are coming to the states? Thanks for taking all this time, Ed.

Yes, that''s an Elise, so is the gray one 5-6 slides above it. It is already in the states. They are producing about 2,000 a year and as far as I know the first year''s allotment is already sold. They''re redesigning it for 2007 and some of the prototypes I''ve seen are even more awesome than the Elise already is. Oh yes, it will be mine.

What the *bleep* was that Jeep thing? That''s got to be one of the bizarre looking vehicles I''ve ever seen. Do they think people are really going to buy that?
Jeep does a better job than any other brand of presenting a consistent feel to their entire vehicle line.
Pity it''s all ugly.

I wish Dodge would put the Slingshot into production. I would sell my car, buy a clunker to drive in the winter, and drive a Slingshot every sunny day from april till october. If I had to pick something that''s actually going into production soon I''d probably go with the Pontiac Solstice. That car is awesome and affordable too.
I found the new Lotus Elise slightly less alluring once I found out the powertrain was pulled directly from the Toyota Celica GTS.
And apparantly the issues that pertained to that engine in the celica still exist in the Elise. Don''t get me wrong, I bet it''s still a blast to drive.. but from my reading the gearing is still off and it still sucks a lot of the energy and fun out of the car.
Go test drive a Celica GTS. It''ll give you a reasonable indication of what you''re in for. Not in the weight/power ratio, but in the all-important gearing. I did give the GTS a drive, and as much fun as I had it was still frustrating. Every shift drops you down out of the RPM range where the variable valve timing kicks in and your horsepower really opens up. The Honda vehicles are as popular as they are because it''s easy as can be to shift gears and keep the Vtec going, and the power up.

I would hate to know what I would do for this car if it ever went into production. Chevy SS with a 6.0L engine and four doors. Finally a sports car from Chevy that I can bring my friends with me. I would trade my Camaro in in no time.
Thin, for the Elise Lotus did take the GTS engine, but redid the computer, resulting in extra horsepower, a higher redline and better shifting. I haven''t driven one yet, but people that have didn''t complain about that to me. I''ll have to check it out.
*Edit*
Gnome, man.. if you have access to people who have actually driven an Elise, lord man take their word over anything I''d say! I have in no way, nor will I likely ever in my life even get to touch an actual Elise, much less drive one. I''d place far more weight in the opinions of someone whose actually driven the car. All of my information is from print sources and the internet. Not the most reliable of places to read information.
The motor trend review (I think that''s the right magazine, it could have been one of the many others) stated that while things were much improved regarding the horsepower, redline, suspension, etc.. they did still say that the gearing ""needs work"". They did not say it took the car down a notch, nor did they truly complain about it. They just said it was a minor quibble and one that 99% of people who would buy the elise would look past after their first five minutes with the car.
The only thing I''m saying is that if I had access to the kind of money needed for an Elise and was going to buy a car with it, I would most definitely end up with something else.

No Thin_J the picture a few above it. The car is darker gray with a lot of grill work and the man with the beard and bag is getting into the driverseat and has a darker blue shirt on.

Dutty, if you want to see a *real* pure performance no fluff care see the Elise.
