Ravenwood Castle - A GWJ Friendly Travel Destination

How did I not know of this Con, the shame of it all.

Sorry Spy, I sort of stopped posting events here awhile ago. You should hit up our blog "Quoth The Raven" though. We just launched it in response to some Facebook shenanigans, and I announce everything through there first now. That way you're guaranteed to get an email as soon as we announce something. You do know about Hoop & Stick Con though, right?

Haven't played LoTR: LCG yet myself, but now I'm intrigued!

No I didn't know about any of it. I'll have to do better about keeping up.

Don't hesitate to mention things here, if it's a question of worrying about spamming us. With two small kids, I don't know when I'll be able to make it to the castle, but I definitely want to someday!

We're at about minute 17:20. I don't know if it's possible to force the embed link to start then, but this link should take you right to the beginning of our spot.

I had to laugh that they showed Ravenwood in the beginning while mentioning disconnecting from electronics. Given my cell phone strength when I was there, I found it fairly funny.

Thanks Fed. I am a bit worried about becoming too commercial on GWJ, definitely don't want to be seen as spamming!

Heh, the whole "disconnect from electronics" was actually our lines from the pre-production questionnaire. I was surprised to see it make it to the top of the show!

Imho, if someone is reading this thread, they're open to hearing about what happens at your castle!

Yep. That's why I favorited it.... It has nothing to do with my plans for lottery winnings and world domination through board game castle destinations...

Edited to replace entire episode with just our spot.

We just launched our latest campaign, the Winter of Gaming, complete with banner ads on Board Game Geek.

I was watching for them to go live yesterday, and check out where I found it first.

Hehe awesome. Best of luck with the campaign!

Ad looks great!

Thanks guys. I don't like how it looks in still form all that much, but I'm really happy with it when it's animated.

Many, many pages ago, I mentioned the possibility of a zombie themed event. It took us awhile to get to it, but our Night of the Living Dead Murder Mystery was last weekend, with an encore presentation going on this weekend.

Coming as it did directly on the heels of our tribute to Edgar Allan Poe on Halloween, it made for a pretty spooky weekend! Thought you might like to see some images.

More images in our Facebook album.

I bet the zombie murder mystery was a riot. What a place!

Hah! That really looks like fun.

There are zombies chasing humans around outside right now as the humans look for a zombie hand that will help them to find a cure. It is way fun. I also had someone sneak in to the bar a couple minutes ago looking over his shoulder the whole time. After getting the beer he bolted out the door because the floors upstairs creaked as someone walked towards the stairs. I also got told a story a couple that were trapped in their car for quite some time before they could get out and make a run for it. They still got caught.

Your job is weird.

One shuffling zombie cleared the whole pub on me last weekend. Never seen the place empty that fast.

Any wolf men this time Mono?

You misspelled "awesome"

Yes there was a werewolf chasing people. Folks came in and accused me of chasing them around in a wolf mask.

We have a new type of event coming up. One that I have a sneaking suspicion you guys might be interested in. At the moment it's a blog exclusive (haven't announced it on Facebook yet), but I don't mind giving you guys an early heads up too.

I'm looking forward to this one!

Mmmmm Breakfast Stout. Love that stuff.

You and me both! That particular breakfast stout is going to be our November Beer of the Month (oops, spoilers), and is my new favorite stout, period.

I just hope you guys have some events like this (and the murder mystery events) in the spring, summer, and/or fall. It's just too far for us to drive through the hills of WV in the winter.

We'll definitely have more events in the Spring and Fall Nevin. We're already making plans for next year's zombie murder mysteries around Halloween, and we'll have several other between now and then. I hope to do more Beer Tasting weekends as well, particularly given the response this one has gotten so far. I don't know how many events we'll be doing in mid-summer though, that's a rough time for us to put on extra activities.

Want to work in a castle? Ravenwood is hiring an Assistant Innkeeper!

No worries, MonoCheli's not going anywhere. Unfortunately though, the couple I hired to assist him in running Ravenwood has decided that they really miss Indiana, and are going to be leaving us shortly. So we're on the lookout for a new Assistant Innkeeper (and a new Housekeeper for that matter).

Hospitality experience is preferred, but isn't an absolute must. As I've posted before, my hiring philosophy is fairly simple. I'm a big believer that the key to hiring is finding talented people with the right inherent attitudes and personalities. Specific skills can be taught from there.

With that in mind, what we're looking for is: the ability to work hard, the willingness to learn a variety of tasks and the ability to work well within a small team. Potential tasks on any given day include: maintenance, office work, food service, housekeeping, light cooking, tending bar, event planning and teaching and/or playing games with guests. Overnight inn-sitting would be required on occasion. The primary focus for the position would be on the maintenance side of things, but in our team everybody does a bit of everything.

This is a salaried position, but does not include living arrangements in the castle. This position is long term, and will be a part of the castle's management team.

If you or someone you know is interested in helping us make Ravenwood Castle the premier gaming getaway destination, PM me or email me at jobs at ravenwoodcastle.com.

On the plus side, you've witnessed history: the first person to miss the state of Indiana.

Over the last eighteen months, the Goodjer Collective has been a great source of feedback, input, advice and assistance for us at Ravenwood Castle. I'm hoping I can tap into that well one more time - we could use your help with some votes.

We're an entrant in Cleveland Business Connect's - Connectors Choice Awards, in the category of Corporate Event Destination. This is an area we're really trying to get more exposure in, and even being a finalist for this award would be huge.

Voting is at the link below, and is only open until Sunday night. Our entry is on the fifth page of the survey, you can just click through, or feel free to vote on the other categories as well. These votes just determine the five finalists, which would then be reviewed by a panel at CBC.

Due to a mis-communication we're getting into this a bit late, but I'm pretty sure a few extra votes from you guys can help turn that tide. There is no limit to the number of times you can vote, so as they say, vote early and vote often!

Thanks in advance guys!

ME too Eh! Some day I may actually go, but the pictures look nice!

Thanks guys, we greatly appreciate it! And come on down groan! We've had Strangeblades on site, so we're all trained up on handling Canadian-Goodjers!
