I like the idea of the increased pace of matches with a three day timer.
I don't think I'd be able to participate because I know I'd run into some stretches where I wouldn't be able to check in on the game.

Why miss out then? Opt for the three games, but in 7 days.

I'd say single match in 3 days, or 3 matches in 7.

I think the game times would still have to be 3 day time limits in order to complete the match in a week. Does that make sense? I do like the idea of keeping a best of 3. It just seemed to take forever in some cases.

Sounds good, that way, if you know you are going to have a bad stretch of time, you can 'lose' one game due to timing out, then possibly catch up in the other two. Now that we've run through one league, and we've all seen how long you can be sitting on the side lines, (hello, first one out of the pool) there may be more of a focus on getting through the games. I think the Challonge as mandatory will help that out too.

Yeah, signing up at Chollange will send an email reminder when you have a new match without requiring you to publish your email address on GWJ. Seems like the best of both worlds. I will also require people to report their scores. That way I'm not holding up the process.

I'll dip my toes into the tournament as well. As always I'm Trachalio on Gamecentre and on Challonge

GWJ Ascension Swiss Tournament

Requirements:

Own SoS
Have the time to complete 2 Ascension games per week
Have a Chollange account: http://challonge.com/
Desire to win!

Tournament Information:

The tournament will be a Swiss Tournament which is basically an expedited round robin tournament. Each player will be assigned an opponent each round and will play two Ascension games for each round. In the event of an odd number of players, one player will have a bye and be awarded two wins for the round. A player can only be awarded a bye once per tournament. A game win will award the victor 3 points, a tie will award each player 1 point, and a loss will award 0 points. Therefore, a player can earn a maximum of 6 points a round. Once a round is complete, players will be awarded points in a table, and new rankings will be established. The next round’s matches will be assigned by rank (typically the top players will continue to play other tops players and vice versa). However, you can only play an opponent once so if the first and second place player have already played each other, the first place player would typically be assigned to play the third place player. This is all automatically determined by an algorithm created by Chollange.com. The number of rounds played will be determined by the number of players participating.

In the event of a tie at the end of the tournament, Chollange will use a tie-breaking algorithm to determine the winner. However, since we like playoffs, there will be a best of 3 tie-breaker in the event of a tie.

Tournament Registration:

Registration is open until Sunday, September 2nd at 6PM EST.

Please signup with your forum name, gamecenter ID, and challonge ID.

Signup: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

Match Initiation:

When a new round is announced, an email will be sent to you from Chollange. The player listed first in the match should send the game invite with the following settings:

Deck: SoS

Duration: 3 days

I will update the rules with how to report results once we have closed registration.

Based on previous discussion I decided to find a happy medium and require you to play your round opponent twice instead of a single game or best of 3. Ties are also allowed this time so you don't lose by having the first turn.

In like Flynn.

I'm in as soon as I make a challonge account.

I'm interested in another round of the tournament, my games have been dropping off/ being disconnected of late, so it will be exciting to play regularly again.

I've only just started playing Ascension recently (bought in with the recent sale), but have been enjoying it a lot. So I am in.

In for the win. Sounds good, bigred.

In.

I too, am in.

Obv.

Can you edit the thread title so people who don't know Tourney1 is over might be more likely to come back into the thread?

What the heck, I'm in (if I can squeeze under the wire). After all, I've got an invincible strategy that centers on the Hedron Cannon!

I'll be closing registration within the hour. Everyone who has signed up will be able to participate.
