I apologize for not having said it before, I <3 this thread.
I tried out Project Zomboid, and had hilariously dreadful results on my first few tries of the one premade story in the alpha. Having my house that I was fortifying burn to the ground while the woman I was trying to save was immoblie upstairs. All because I left the soup on the stove too long in the Kitchen. The smoke alarm bringing in all nearby zombies didn't help my rescue attempt at all either. Just one of those helpless, mouth open, how the f did I screw up so bad, moments. I switched to a new build that only has sandbox mode, and had some fun with that as well.
Playing it reminded me of a PCgamer article about a turn based rpg with zombies. Dead State will definitely warrant a try for me once it's available.
Wow, Glad i found this thread. Unreal World seems to be right up my alley.
I loved Rebuild, I did not there was a 2, I'll have to check it out!
I totally recommend unreal world a fantastic game when you get into it. As for other survival games: Their are a bunch of them on the ds and gameboy actually (survival kids, lost in blue 1/2, sim castaway or something.
http://www.instantkingdom.com/notrium/
Notrium is another good survival game, you crash land on an alien planet and have to get by (also know a similar flash game but I can't remember the name)
I'm also remember playing some German/foreign survival game a long time ago (not stranded) that was isometric game where you were a castaway. Can't remember the title at all, was a good game though.
Edit: Found it, its called Schiffbruch here's a link: http://www.old-games.com/download/1585/schiffbruch
Oh and survival crisis z would count i think. Another zombie survival game.
Quarantine 2019 might fit in on this list. It is a browser-based MMO zombie survival game. You start off as either a human or a zombie. Humans are struggling to survive in the city and to find a cure to the zombism while the zombies are trying to kill and infect all of the humans. As a human you go from block to block in the city, scavenging for items (weapons, medkits, equipment), repairing buildings, creating barricaded safe houses, etc. The skill tree allows you to specialize as an engineer, scientist, soldier, or medic. Similarly there are different skills and specializations you can have as a zombie. Games typically last for a couple weeks. We used to have a relatively active community of players here on the site with our own clan.
In the Stranded, washed up on a desert island, vein there is Stranded Without a Phone for iOS. Anyone else know of similar style gameplay in other iOS titles?
Ever since I played Fallout way back in '97, I've had a love affair with post-apocalyptic everything. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Last of Us. I WILL get a PS3 for this game.

It's up on the list. Will there be a PC version?
Oh, Derp, I missed it. Being a Naughty Dog game, though, I doubt it'll ever be on the PC.

Ha! I bet you talked to my best friend tonight; she's a big-time Quarantine player and she mentioned that a Citizens With Jobs 'EriktheRed' showed back up in the game (she has a couple of different aliases on there, but you probably spoke to some permutation of hopalong/whicho). I couldn't help but mention your amusing tag, so if you get any odd comments/spray paint messages regarding 'for a good time call..' involving amorous dinosaurs you can blame me.
As for no PC love? Why no love? Why Naughty Dog? We've been good to you.
Unfortunately, 1. They've never made PC games, and 2. They're a subsidiary of Sony. I think Sony would prefer people keep buying PS3s.
Dead Zone is a facebook game? DISGUSTING.
I was looking forward to that too
Nice thread!!!
Tigerbill wrote:Strangeblades wrote:That's the kind of nit and grit I'm talking about. NEO Scavenger comes close to that as well as that Nordic survival game - I forget what it's called.
And Disaster Report sound nifty.
Must know name of game you are talking about.
Unreal World? Niseg is the local expert on it I believe. I haven't put much time into it.
I admit the charges ;). That thread brings back memories. I'm not sure how that game ended up. BTW the wound display Strangeblade posted looks a little grim. I remember that someone once said he died from a squirrel bite to the toe. I once fell off a tree on my eye which was pretty deadly ;).
If anyone want to ask questions about the game feel free to chat with me on Steam ( I'm the only Niseg on steam so I'm easy to find) because I'm always on since I got the app on my phone. Take note that hunting is not too easy unless you have a ranged weapons (javelins or bow I think crossbow is a little slow to reload )or using traps for passive hunting. The animals like running away and they run the wind( You might be able to ski faster in winter).
In the game you generally try to get food and preserve it (spoils in a 7-10 days) by different cooking methods or putting it in a cold place like a cellar (don't sleep in the cellar ) . You also try to prepare for the winter where you can die from exposure (frostbites) so you need to make warm cloth and collect food. There is a new mechanic in the game where foods have nutrition values I'm not really sure how it works but I think you now need to have a balanced diet and not live on meat/fish alone.
I think the easiest culture to start is Owl Tribe because they are good at Axing, bow shooting,Hide working and fishing they stink at spearing though which may be a good idea to put a point in it (for javelin throwing- it's easy to make Javelins). I think the "demo" (unregistered shareware) let you play for 10 days before it kills you . I don't think it's a good time to get a lifetime membership (it's really expensive these days) I think a single/major version would be enough and these are cheap. After that you can decide if you want to support the author. Sami, the author, has been working on this game for more than 10 years so I guess it's a good investment ( it was a better investment in the past ) .
Yeah, I thought about trying URW but, then I realized I'm playing the First Person version of it Wurm Online. (yes I know they aren't the same)
For URW the current version is $30USD, the major version is $5, and the lifetime is $40.

3$ for current version ;). The lifetime version used to be the only option in the past and the price was lower but it was still a little expensive for people from poorer countries . I think a major version can keep you updated for at least 3 years (my estimate) and if you like the game you won't mind throwing more money at the author.

I was looking forward to that too :(
Don't count out it just yet. It is not a cartoony version of itself although there is going to be a little pay-to-make-it-easier-on-yourself.
I would wait until the beta is done and give it a go. I know I will.
Facebook is disgusting though. :)
I'm having fun with it now that I know it exists. It helps that the energy system in play is pretty different than most FB games. Every task has a time it takes to complete: constructing and upgrading things, deconstructing junk for materials, returning from scavenging missions. You can pay using fuel (which is their version of energy) to either reduce the time or finish it instantly, and anything that has less than 5 minutes on the timer can be completed instantly. The in-game store lets you buy items, materials, and fuel, but it hasn't been intrusive at all (no pop-ups).
The thing that sets it apart for me is that it's very solo-friendly, and can be played for a long time. Most FB games have every action cost energy, but limit you so you only have enough to play for half an hour or so before you run out (unless you buy more energy). I was able to play for several hours straight last night, and could have continued for many hours more if I wanted to. You're the leader, and your goal is to build a base and attract other NPC survivors to help you. While you wait for stuff to build, you can go on scavenging missions, or raid the bases of other players. Each building can be visited once in a 24 hour period, but there are a lot of them that you can get to, and many of them have a return time of 5 minutes (which translates to instant since you can speed it up for free). During the scavenging missions, you enter a building, searching for anything you can find in the time allotted while fighting off constantly respawning hordes of zombies. The view is isometric, and combat takes place automatically. Survivors have a range, and will fight anything that gets within that range with the weapon you've equipped. You move them around, and can manually designate targets. This isn't needed for lower difficulty missions, but I've nearly been overrun on some of the harder ones.
They also haven't implemented any social stuff yet (that I know of), so there's none of the constant harassing to invite your friend to join, or any special items that you can only get by having friends that play. I'm sure they'll start showing up once they implement the social stuff though. I also haven't encountered any other player bases yet, so all I know about PVP is what the tutorial tells you (you can only attack offline players and steal stuff by damaging what they've built, I'm not sure if you have to fight their survivors off first).
All in all, it's the most fun I've had with a FB game, and set up pretty differently from the few I have played (D&D: Heroes of Neverwinter, Dragon Age Legends, King's Bounty: Legions, and Marvel: Avengers Alliance). It runs really smooth, except that loading the map to go on a mission loads really slowly.
As a side note: Strangeblades, you're a filthy enabler. Both this and NEO Scavanger are eating into my Skyrim time.
Also, there's the upcoming Banner Saga, which recently had a Kickstarter going for it (26 days to go, goal has been met). Norsemen fighting turn-based RPG style after the gods all leave (ie, end of the world). Cool style and interesting subject matter.
Since a few people have mentioned Quarantine 2019, you might want to look at Urban Dead, the game Q19 is descended from.
Time for more NEO Scavenger. I hope I live longer than five minutes this time.
I lasted a whole 10 minutes until I was punched to death by a bandit.

I've been punched, shot, shot, shot, shot and shot some more. And then I think an animal killed me. That's when I wasn't starving, crippled or dying of hypothermia. Most of the time I was still wearing my freakin' hospital gown.
I found some stylin' blue jeans, a hoodie, and like 5 boots in my first few minutes. And a shotgun with .308 rounds. That's like having a car with only 3 wheels on it; so close, but so far away.
Have you managed to die from the elements yet? Is that even possible?
Decided to check out NEO Scavenger.
The first thing I see is a series of pictures of the developer applying lipstick so he can kiss all of the thank-you postcards.
Nice.
