WoW Final Stress Test (Fileplanet Subscribers Again)
Monday, November 1st, 2004 - 5:15pm
Quote:
In preparation for the upcoming free open beta test, Blizzard will be conducting a final stress test for World of Warcraft. Starting today, November 1, at 1:00 PM PST, players who would like to get a sneak peek of the game prior to the free open beta test will be able to visit FilePlanet, sign up for the final stress test, download the game client, and begin playing. In addition to helping us further test World of Warcraft's server infrastructure under heavy loads, final stress test participants will automatically have their free open beta test slots reserved, and their account and characters will transfer over to the free open beta test seamlessly! For more information, please check out our final stress test FAQ and free open beta test FAQ.
Please note that a subscription to FilePlanet is required in order to join the final stress test. For those who wish to wait until the free open beta starts to join in, we will be releasing information about signups for that in the week ahead. The exact duration of the final stress test has not yet been determined; however, the free open beta test will begin shortly after the final stress test is brought to a close. Please stay tuned to WorldofWarcraft.com for more information.--NOTE TO CLOSED BETA TESTERS--
World of Warcraft closed beta test participants are already qualified to enter the final stress test. The final stress test client is NOW available for download by testers at WorldofWarcraft.com. Please note that your account and characters are still available and ready to continue where they left off! Also note that the client that you download will NOT be noticeably different from the last version of the beta that you played. In the days ahead, we will provide a patch that will update everyone's game client with the features, such as Paladin and Hunter talents and racial traits for all races, that you've been waiting for.

Those links to the FAQs are broken, as an aside.
Any one know where the fileplanet sign up is? Or do you automaticly get in if you were in the last stress test?
EDIT: Never mind it just poped up on the file planet front page.
woot more WoW!
I just signed up and got my beta key. Goo!
And, it doesn''t appear to be updated on the fileplanet site.
But hey. Exciting!!! I could theoretically be playing tonight!
[EDIT] Doh!
[EDIT 2] Anyone having issues? I''m getting to the information screen, but when I click on submit, it takes me to a ""sign up for fileplanet"" page.
Grr.

Bummer Marlin!
You wouldn''t think I''d complain so much about being on vacation, yet, here I am doing it.
Have fun! I''ll definitely be in next week on top of Halo 2 action.

Sigh damnit to hell the singup page is giving errors now. DAMN YOU TO HELL FILEPLANET.
<disregard>

Getting errors and other assorted problems myself. Even when it does seem to work, just seems to take me to a ''subscribe now'' type page...
Course, it worked for me immediately after posting this. Go figure.

I would assume the servers are getting bombarded. I managed to get in right after Propa posted his note (just saw the title, immediately jumped over to Fileplanet on an off chance) and started the download. Started out at around 200Kb/s, now its hovering between 80-100.

Doesn''t matter... FilePlanet has collapsed under load. I sent an email in, but it''s likely all email going to /dev/null right now. Or whatever the appropriate WindowsNT black hole is... looks like their ASP''s aren''t feeling real good.
I''m in!
Yay there goes my sleep tonight.
Com''on download, run Forest run.
EDIT: Patience Grasshopper. File Planet is weeping under the load. Hit your computer with iron fist. Worked for me. Cursing too.

In order to get the download working, I had to first logout and back in. Additionally, the first two download locations refused to load. Finally, on my third try the download started and is currently providing an ETA of a little over 2 hours.
Edit - average rate is sitting strong at ~320KB/sec for my connection (Adelphia cable modem).

I, as well, am in. I''ll be able to set up the download, go to choir and to the bar, and then come home to not only be able to play WoW, but to find out that I won a new computer!!
Good times!

Well I got my key and I am downloading the client but I get a connection refused error when I try to go to the account sign up page.
Choir and bar? Do the guys at choir know your going to a bar, and do the guys at the bar know you''ve just come from a choir?
Very balanced lifestyle. 8)

I am in, someone start a character list soon? We trying to hang and start a guild?

I''m at work and can''t even start my download. I wonder if it''s the exact same client the closed beta testers can download via blizzard. If so it might be faster using their bit torrent client.
Maybe I can walk my wife through starting the download when she gets home.
Why is the Blizzard download client also *uploading* stuff and at a faster rate than I''m downloading (16-32 down, 40 up)?
EDIT: Because it''s a BitTorrent client. And I knew that. Thanks, play again soon.
Good thing I did this at work.
Bold emph-ass-is mine.

Huh? How would resubmitting your information get you in faster when you''ve already gotten your beta key? Maybe they''re talking about the account sign-up stage in the WoW site?
No. On the FP page you put in some personal info before you get your beta key. This page is the page I got after I put in that info, basically saying I got in but they''re getting nailed so hard they''re going to mail the keys out in groups and not to resubmit my info into FP thinking that I''ll get my key via email any quicker if I do so.

It helps if I read the quoted text in the first post before I blather on.
The only other thing to note in regards to Marlin''s post below mine is that my warning page about not getting my Key right away says to turn off your firewall, so maybe they''re using torrent type technology for DLs.

Waugh. Download speed has dropped to 54k. Definitely won''t be finished before bedtime tonight.

Well, it''s mostly older people in choir (at 23, I''m one of maybe 4 people under 35) so I''m sure the guys in my section (35-55) wouldn''t mind AT ALL if they found out I was going to a bar afterwards. Heck, they''d probably join me.
As far as the bar friends, they''re very supportive. They''d think playing WoW was dorky before they thought singing was dorky.

Yep, that''s what I mean, everyone has to download an entirely new client. There''s a good chance that it''s the same client, so it might be faster to d/l it through blizzard. Don''t know, though, it''s just a guess.
Btw, FP is saying you need to uninstall any previous versions of WoW before installing this new client.
You don''t need to wait for any email, your key is at the bottom of the page. Or, it was for me, anyways.
Only problem i encountered was the d/l not wanting to start since Mozilla was my default browser. Switched back to IE as my default browser and my download begun.
