Guild Wars: Found a trainer with skills I've never seen

Captain Greywind is in a settlement basically due north of D'Alessio Seaboard, near that lakeish body of water. I got there by heading out from Lion's Arch and basically following the trail NNW. It's called Ascalon (in the "North Kryta Province" if that helps), doesn't show up on my map after I made it there (and why can't you stick notes on the map?), but he's got a capture signet (what you use to gain skills from bosses) and a whole slew of skills, some of which seem very nice and not for sale in town. Unfortunately, I'm out of coin and apparently too high for this area to make much.

Looks like there might be a couple of quests out here too... I'm supposed to return to Lion's Arch to report bandit activity (or inactivity now!) to the Sarge.

As an aside, Wind Riders suck. I can't finish that damn third mission after nearly a dozen attempts with my four henchmen.

EDIT: You can actually see the settlement on the map when you're in that adventure zone. It's a collection of tan blocky shapes to the left of the large island. I had a problem finding it again and thought I'd relay that.

EDIT: Here's a list of *some* of the skills he's selling... they changed from the last time I was here, I'm not sure why:
COMMON skills:
Signet of Capture

PRIMARY profession (ranger for me):
Blizzard
Call of Haste
Call of Vitality
Distracting Shot
Favorable Winds
Marksman's Wager
Quick Shot
Serpent's Quickness

SECONDARY profession (warrior for me):
"For great justice!"
Balanced Stance
Bonetti's Defense
Endure Pain
Hammer Bash
Protector's Strike
Shield Stance

Awesome find. I have all my primary monk skills and I want to get more but I was starting to worry I wouldn''t get anymore during the event. I have been looking for a capture signet as well. Still not sure how it works. I know I need to use it on the boss mob at the end of mission 4 because that dude is tough.

Their DOTs suck bad, I agree. Wait until you face the named one on mission 4, oy!

Well, all I''ve completed so far is mission 1 with some randoms. If there''s any GWJers just starting out or need mission 2 I wouldn''t mind hooking up to knock those out of the way.

I would like to do mission 4 again with any of you guys (especially if someone has a good strategy for the last guy). Why do I want to do it again? Well, I told some of you this in guild chat but here it goes again: We finished off a 15 minute fight with the final boss and it took about 20 total rezzes to win. It was stressful but very satisfying to finally beat the guy. Well, the cutscene started and showed our team lined up and then the load screen started to dump us into mission 5''s prep area. Bam, crash to the main menu screen. I had hit level 17 during the mission and it dropped me back to 16.5 and I didn''t get credit for the mission. It was a slap in the face after all the hard work. The only reason we won was because we had a level 20 warrior who is a regular alpha tester and he was wearing ""uber"" upgraded gear. So winning again could prove to be a pain without everyone having armor/weapon upgrades.

On a side note, to help our little weekend guild, everyone needs to keep any drops they get. Always salvage what you get (with a salvage kit) and we can hopefully craft some upgrades for everyone. I have about 40 wood planks and some fibrous thread so far.

Oh yeah, if I am not busy with another mission or crafting, I am always game to redo earlier missions with guys that need help. Since, you still get good exp for doing them it only helps. I hope to be level 20 by tomorrow.

I don''t mind redoing some missions (i think the second shield at the end of the missions is for a sub quest and I haven''t completed any of those on any of the maps) to get some GWJers ahead.

I need to spend some hours with the wife tonight though first but I''ll be on.

Yeah, was wondering about the two shields. For the first two I''m pretty sure I got both shields, but for the third we only got the red one, or the one on the left.

I have not had the second shield light up in any of my missions. Anyone care to guess what the secondary goal was on the first mission. I went looking for it and never found it!

Thanks for the info on the trader, might head up there this afternoon.
The problem i see with the henchmen, and I saw abit of this last night when we did the second mish, is that the monk can be a bit of a kamikaze, and once the healer goes, you
can be in a bit of a bind. If we''re on together today, I''ll help with the 3rd mish.

I think the bonus quest is to save ALL of the chosen from a certain point on in that mission (they follow you), I''m not sure I''ve found them all much less not let any of them bite it in that mission.

Also, a little something to help everyone. I find it a good idea to keep Sprint as one of your 8 skills. As a healer, if our tanks go down and we wipe, and stuff goes after me, I use sprint until the mob stops chasing me. It will then usually reset and go back to it''s original spawn point, then I go and rez the fallen. Worked well on some hard missions.

Well, LK dropped and so I''m running it again. My level 10 Moa Bird just got killed thanks to bad geometry and apparently you take a death penalty when your pet dies, so likely I''ll be failing the damn mission once again and will therefore take you up on your offer of assistance Eezy!

I thought the left shield was for completing a PVE quest and the right for PVP. That was just a guess though as I haven''t tried PVP yet.

Oh, if any ranger out there wants a lynx for a pet (they are nice to have), I can tell you where to get one. The developers made it harder to find them this time but the easiest place I have found to get one is on the first mission (not the very first tutorial mission). After the Confessor tells you to save his daughter to end the mission, you go down the road in the direction it tells you. When you get halfway down the road from the castle to the little town go up the hill on the right. There are several lynx up there for you.

It is my understanding that each shield represents goals/objectives inside that mission.

There''s also another zone to the NE of Lion''s Arch, where the snow covered mountains are on the map that''s apparently not available yet. That was sort of disappointing.

Also, my Moa Bird (motto: Moa 4 lif3!!1!) came back after that mission failed.

Sorry about that, it looks like my internet connection is going spotty... I''ll be fine for a little bit and then nothing for a little bit, Comcast says, ""they''re on it"" whatever the hell that means...

That means they''re making more coffee and laughing at your misfortune when they bring up bitchy tech support calls in conversation.

Does ranger have to be your primary profession? I''m a warrior/ranger.

I wish I knew but I have not learned that yet. I think I saw a W/R with one so it is probably possible. I think it is a skill you can get.

On that first mission, I was carrying around some sort of Urn thing that I was supposed to put near a statue.... anyone know where that statue is? Never found it.

I guess I''m just not enjoying this one becuase of playing world of warcraft. But WOW is down this weekend so I''ll have to put some time in on this. I like the fact that I had it up and running in 5 minutes. Not 2 days of downloading.

There is an easier place in the first mission to get a lynx pet. Oh and yes it definitely suck to have 36% penalty because your pet is dying.

When your task is to clear the undead out of that first village, if you go down to the water I found a couple of lynx''s there.

As long as that trainer will sell you the charm animal skill, I cant forsee any problem with a secondary ranger getting a pet.

I took my rag tag bunch of henchmen and finished mission 3.

They need to make ignite arrow non interuptable. Thats like the only skill we have. Oh and Ive found my rangers energy regens dog slow compared to my necro/mesmer.

Im going to look into the ranger''s pet enhancement skills. Its nice to have someone keep the enemy at a distance but it would also be nice if they did SOME damage too.

Originally noted by Sway: CTRL shows names of PCs and henchmen, making it slightly easier to find folks when forming groups. ALT shows loot on ground, ranger pets in the area and... this is crazy... chests. I''ve found four or five chests in the current mission using this. Thought it might help...

The all purpose Trader guy (in Merchants Row, I forget his name) in Lion''s Arch now gives you a quest to take a strongbox to the Ascalon Settlement where Captain Greywind is.

I love the fact that the explorable areas are multiplayer enabled too this time. Also, I think that the henchmen are for the most part fantastic.

Agreed on both counts.

Oh and mesmers can take care of windriders pretty quickly. They just use their own curse against them. We should start a thread with what mobs are suseptible to what types of attacks.

They sure beefed up elementalists from the last alpha event.

I love the complex tactics of the necromancer and the mesmer.

I started a War/Mes and am really digging the Mesmer skills. I tried a Mes/Nec, but that was too much to manage really.

Basically, anything to avoid the mad rush of rangers I guess... although my Moa Bird on Dances is now level 16 and a total badass.

Does anyone know how the @#$% Skill Rings and Necklaces work?

I have a Necro ring I''d like to use but when I tried one of the cheap (1 Gold) ones from the Outfitter Bodrus, my Skill charm and ring both disappeared. The skill disappeared from my skill list and shows as a charm. However, it acts just the same as a skill meaning you have to drag it into one of your 8 slots to use. In E34E if you used one it gave an extra skill slot (#9) and was used that way. So, WTF? I''m reluctant to waste my Necro ring until I figure this out!
