That was very good. If he's consistently that good I wouldn't mind a semi-reunion tour. They were my favourite band for ages.

I actually don't think they are reuniting. There are some recent interviews with Brian May for Queens 40th Anniversary. What a great band!

I wasn't convinced until I watched the Bohemian Rhapsody. They would need to work on his stage presence for a tour, but that's the easy thing to fix.

That was the thing about Freddie - he really had a set of pipes on him. Marc's first video sounded good but he just didn't have the raw force behind his voice and I wondered if he could really keep the tone at higher volume. The second video makes me think he just might be able to.

He does come really close, but like NSMike said, he would really need to work on his stage presence. I also would like to see if he's got the same creative spark Freddie had. If he does, I love to see what him and Brian May (if he's willing) can come up with.

Whoa, I had chills too. I like his voice a lot, it doesn't sound like he's trying to imitate, but he hits every note and has feeling behind it. If there were a tour, he'd get my vote. I'd love to hear more. I'm a huge Queen fan, and never thought anyone would get this close to being able to stand in for Freddie. He's a damn good looking man to top it all off. Looks a lot like Freddie too. I think his stage presence would progress naturally if he were to actually tour with the band. He showed more personality in the first video when it was just him, he was more reserved when he was playing with the huge group of obviously incredibly talented singers and musicians. They did a great job on the song too.

edit: I searched around for more info, but couldn't find any more videos. He was auditioning for a spot in a Queen tribute band. They will tour in early 2012 and it's being put together by Roger Taylor. He does say that he's putting on the Freddie Murcury in that video, but that he's always been told he sounds like him.

Interview here.

And here's the project.

If Queen tours again, I'm sure it will be with a singer who is a strong and well-established creative collaborator as well as a great singer. I think that was a big part of the logic behind bringing in Paul Rodgers--dude doesn't sound like Freddie, but he's a legendary singer in his own right, and all of Queen (including Freddie) were fans. Video guy sounds great, but I don't think that putting a tribute band sound-alike in Freddie's shoes would really be honoring Freddie's legacy.

I guess that's the big question surrounding tribute bands. Are they creating anything new? Not really. Are they doing anyone justice? Maybe, if they're good at it. Are they really playing tribute or just cashing in? The jaded me says cashing in, the more naiive me says they're having a great time singing these awesome songs and turning new people on to the music. I'm simple, I think it's fun to see someone who can pull it off, but I concede that it may not be the greatest honor to the original artist. Although, it's always been said imitation is the highest form of flattery. I don't know if Freddie would feel honored or not.

I'll bet he would take it in the spirit in which it was offered. It sounds like that particular Queen tribute band is coming from a place of respect and genuine affection, which is cool.

Interesting, thanks for the link!

I listened to a bunch of tracks, and he sounds great with Downhere, but in general the writing couldn't be further from the adventurous spirit of Queen.

He's singing along with the music. Freddy sang and the music played beside him, and thats saying alot seeing as Brian May was playing right next to him. He could open his diaphragm and make an ungodly connection from it straight into a mic to the point where you thought he wasn't even using amplification. He is basically a tenor opera singer and blessed us all adding his voice to rock and roll. The guy is good but i don't think hes close to Freddy, not that no one can get there but his volume, anunciation, and emotional connection made for one of the best singers rock has ever had if not the best.

There's not much to get... Like most musical genres, they're appealing to their target audience. It just so happens that the Christian Rock audience likes 300+ different bands that are virtually indistinguishable.

I was listening/watching some videos last night and I stumbled across this one of Queen live at Wembley in 1986.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-rkJmRiFug&feature=related

I've always known about Queen, heard their music and knew they were responsible forsome historic rock anthems. Until I saw this video, I'd never realized how truly amazing Freddy was. The intro to this song alone is stunning. And that's freaking LIVE. No autotunning or polishing. Just pure musical genius.

We saw Queen with Paul Rogers in 2006 in DC. It was a good show, but felt like they'd tried to hard to cram him into the role. Good show, but just made me sorry I'd missed them the first time around.

No one is going to ever replace the self-destructive genius of Mercury, but Queen is too good of a band not to try.

Legends.

Wow, if this hadnt been released with video, but just as audio clips, I think folks would have trouble believing it was anyone but Freddie Mercury.

He's so laid back in how he sings it in the first demo video. So natural. Appearance aside, I guess this guy was just born with a similar set of pipes. Lucky guy.

I think it would be great if it turned into some kind of celebration/memorial tour or partnering that both the original band and fans could enjoy together to revisit a time lost, if only for a moment.

On Christian rock... well, I dont really listen to any, but I dont struggle with the idea that some groups want to marry a medium/genre 'rock' with what they feel is 'positive messaging.' That's fine and healthy. I just prefer my rock edgier, maybe angrier, a chance to visit the personal difficulties and darker themes that we face I suppose. To be honest, I dont know if Christian Rock bands ever go to darker places or if it generally just chords around happy, happy hallelejuh kind stuff. I'd bet there is the occasional ballad I'd enjoy, but I'm not familiar with it at all.

Under Pressure is one of my all time favorite songs. It's practically the theme song of the last year of my life! I listen to it a lot, and always sing at the top of my lungs. But, I had never seen that video, thanks for sharing it. I was in tears by the end of the song. Maybe I should watch it again.

There is a huge diversity in Christian music, its just that the Dove awards tend to favor the "pop" type categories. Here are two very different bands I like that don't sound like Downhere.
