Deadwood on DVD
This is the only way I watch TV nowadays, via DVD sets. Enjoyed Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Smallville. I'm really looking forward to Deadwood after the great reviews.

Deadwood is pretty good, I like Timothy Elephant or however you spell his last name. The only problem I have with the show is the language. I''m no prude and certainly don''t mind foul language but on this show it seems rather gratuitous. Seems like they are just overdoing it to create some kind of hype or hard ''edge'' to the show.
Deadwood is awesome. Great swearing.
The pacing can be slow at times, a lot of characterization. But when the guns and knives finally come out, it''s great. Very visceral.
The antipation of the violence gives even the slower parts an edge.
My favorite aspect of the series the the loose sense of morals. There is no right and wrong. The good guys aren''t all good and the bad guys aren''t all bad. That fits into my sense of how the West actually was. Was Wyatt Earp a righteous lawman or a cowardly bully? A little of both?

Good show.
When is the next season coming out?
Anybody else notice how in the beginning the saloon owner was VERY bad, killing someone with a knife, etc. Then toward the end he seemed to be more ''respectable''?

According to the link RichyRambo posted above the first season DVD comes out Feb. 8th, the second season will premiere around same time.
Deadwood, The Wire, and The Sopranos, are my favorite shows by far. All of them are simply amazing.

I''m very partial to Dead Like Me on Showtime. This week''s episode really expanded on Mandy Patinkin''s character(Rube?) and the show is one of those where I am torn between it and Joiint Ops. Actually, it''s the only one.
And of course, the wife loves Gilmore Girls, so I''ve been sucked into that as well.

Deadwood, Dead Like Me, Carnival and Six Feet Under all great. Huff looks interesting and Odyessy 9 was great ...
I find that the only semi-intelligent programming exists on HBO and Showtime.
Fox will tease you with an Andy Ritcher, Firefly or Wonder Falls and then pull.
Though, I must admit to watching Lost and Gilmore Girls.....okay and Smallville

All the good shows on DVD + NetFlix = No need for anything beyond basic cable.
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

I have been living on my own for 3 years now and have not had cable or sat at all. all my TV show viewing is from DVD. I share the costs of the box sets with my parents and we all watch them multiple times as well as loan them to others.

I myself have just been taking advantage of a service that just became available in my area, which is HBO on Demand. Very cool, and being no additional charge has been even cooler. Though I still do catch a lot of shows on DVD due to Netflix. That way I don''t have to pony up for the rather high costs of box sets.

ARISE!
Couldn't really find another decent Deadwood post to put this in but apparently in the Deadwood: The Complete Series dvd release coming out in december there is this gem:
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
I hate that series have to be wrapped up like this, a la Carnivale. Though Deadwood had a certain amount of (hopeless) closure. Damn expensive period costume dramas.
"YOU SPOIL, YOU GET SPOILED! AAAAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Totally agree - Most of the time these days I'll hold off and grab the boxed set later down the line, like I've being doing with Supernatural, Smallville, etc. Currently started borrowing "The Wire" boxes off of my brother, just finished series one - freakin' great TV series.
Unless it's something I REALLY want to watch asap (e.g : Battlestar Galactica). And to be honest, in most of those cases I'll usually grab the episode online if possible because I hate adverts with a fiery passion and don't presently have a Sky+ box (or equivalent advert-dodging hard-drive based record-o-matic device).
Renting Box sets is great. If you hate the show after the first disc you can cancel the rest.
