Hard Reset - Coming September 2011 - Catch All

Pages

Seen this morning on this Rock Paper Shotgun post, Hard Reset is looking like old-school cyberpunk with a dash of Syndicate, mixed well with Bladerunner and poured over the Matrix with a twist of Deus Ex.

RPS:

The chaps at PCG report that Polish developer Flying Wild Hog have announced their game: it’s a cyberpunk FPS called Hard Reset. The Flying Wild Hog team is made up from members of the team behind Bulletstorm (from People Can Fly), and also folks from CD Projekt and City Interactive. The game is apparently “hard sci-fi”, so that means plenty of references from the likes of Bladerunner to keep us interested. In fact the teaser-trailer (below) might as well be a Bladerunner game, for all the darkness and flying neon hoardings. The story is a bit more later Matrix films, however.

Flying Wild Hog explain: “The PC-exclusive title transports players to a haunting, dystopian future, with humanity on the verge of extinction, confined to its last standing city and under constant threat from the robotic hordes that aim to annihilate mankind. Hard Reset is scheduled for release in September 2011.”

Looking very interesting indeed, and coming out soon!

It's amazing how conflicted I am. This could be great, or it could be really bad.

Ultimately I'm really happy they announced it two months before release. Yay for patience!

Looks like it could be intresting... we'll see.

Keeping fingers crossed. I want more cyberpunk!

I'm potentially pretty down with this, although there's been so little shown that it's impossible to make a decision. Still, it's on my radar.

Moody cyberpunk? Interest piqued!

This!

Feels too early even for a Catch-All, but hey, maybe it will turn out awesome. Go go go Polish devs!

I am hopeful, but "Painkiller-meets-Diablo" is not exactly what I would most prefer to see out of a cyberpunk FPS game.

Following.

Boy...yeah, definitely hard to tell anything concrete from that "trailer."

But the description gives me hope that, if Human Revolution doesn't deliver the Deus Ex goodness that I crave, this might.

Just saw this on No High Scores. I like the description of the game, and the dev team has some veterans, so I'll call myself cautiously optimistic while I put this on my radar.

The original post is missing a link to the official website, so here it is: http://hardresetgame.com/

Could be interesting. I'll keep track of this on the radar.

Man, I dunno. If you read the interview I linked, it sounds much more like a cyberpunk Painkiller than anything to do with Deus Ex.

Given where the developers are located, I have to assume it's going to be a bit moodier than that.

PC exclusive. Cyberpunk. All things I like to hear.

But September 2011 is something I don't expect to happen.

Another review on Ars quoting Gamespot at times.
Find it here.

I can't help thinking an awful lot is being made of the fact it's PC exclusive, without going into much detail of what that means for the game.

I think it's pretty self-explanatory.

RPS hands on.

Improved graphics, physics from what consoles can currently do. Is there much more that needs to be explained? Personally I'd like there to be improved AI over other shooters.

But yes, they're marketing the game as being pc centric and the pc gaming master race doesn't need to hear much else because there starved hearts and minds want nothing more than for the pc to get its due. So, yeah, the hype is working in that way. We'll see if it comes to fruition.

I enjoyed Walker's writeup. It's promising, and I really hope this is a worthwhile success for Flying Wild Hog.

Another Ars review. Looking really good.

I've liked everything I've seen from this so far but it will definitely be a try before you buy game or maybe on a discount few months post release since this year is quite packed (BF3, Skyrim, Torchlight 2, maayyyybe Diablo, RAGE...)
But yeah, the guys making the game come from talented studios and they are putting out a PC game, made for the PC - this at least earns them my respect and hopefully support if the game is good too. I would love to see more studios doing this :\

Looks interesting. Tagged.

Hoping its like $29.99

Agreed. I'm not going to run out and buy this day one. However, if there's a demo (and with all the old school love going on I'd be surprised if there wasn't) I'll jump on that instantly just to see how pretty it really is.

Yes! Real gameplay video!

Wow this video really made me go from 0 - super excited. I love te Blade Runner style and humor. Check it out!
