Arkane's Dishonored

You're right in a sense, but I guess I'm explaining that the planning I do in stealth games feels a lot like the precautions moves I make in XCOM before the enemy knows my position. The fear of the enemy spotting me is also similar.

Early video review from CVG. 9.5

Nothing spoilery, unless you count copious decapitations as spoilery.

Press play. Scroll up. No visual spoilers!

Also, the reviewer is quite enthusiastic. He calls it game of the year at one point.

Of course, any review that comes out before the embargo should be treated with a grain of salt.

There were actually more audio spoilers than the video showed. There were descriptions of mission outcomes which I skipped past, but like nel e nel said, all they showed were deaths and action montages. Played liked a trailer, not really an overview.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous. Hope I can max that out on my PC.

We're planning to post a video with commentary Elysium and I did late tonight when the embargo lifts. It's a sub-quest on a mission that doesn't give away much in terms of the main story but shows a nice cross-section of gameplay. Mostly for people on the fence.

Personally, I don't like seeing much of a game if I know I'm going to play it. If I'm not sure, I don't want to see a bunch of major story beats. That's what we're shooting for here.

There have been various reports, I guess from people who got console copies early that the game can be rushed through really fast, and that the plot and/or plot delivery is really ham-fisted. I'm also hoping the wider spectrum of reviews show it holds up, as I'd quite like this to be good, if not for it's own sake, but for other publishers/developers who might take cues from it if it's received and sells well.

Sounds great. I approach video spoilers in much the same way.

I'm not trying to pick on Dishonored specifically. X-Com also got an early glowing review from Game informer. I hope it's good as well.

In fact, I now have both X-Com and Dishonored pre-ordered. I cannot remember the last time I bought two new games on launch day.

This game has had me just a bit more stoked up than X-COM and even more so after seeing that video. I think Dishonored is what I'll be choosing first that day. Can't wait to get into it. I really hope this sells well and proves that not everything has to be bloody multiplayer.

Shacknews put their review up: http://www.shacknews.com/article/760...

That review definitely made my eyes bulge (in a good way). I wonder if there are non-lethal take down options? Tranquilizer darts, tazers, etc.
The video mentioned "possessing a fish"; so hopefully it means that there's at least some attempt at an aquatic ecosystem/ambient life (and not just magically creating a fish with a power).
Is $45 (PC) from greenmangaming the best deal around right now?

Digitally, yeah, and that's what I did.

I'm just going to wait and see what you guys have to say. I'm going to be waiting on this anyway, but hopefully it'll make its way under my family's Christmas tree or something.

As promised, here's a walkthrough on Dishonored Sean and I did! It's a side-quest and there's no really concrete main plot details in here other than some general things. Hopefully it'll be a good video for people on the fence!

Glad to see that I seem to have been wrong about the critical response. Granted, we're only 10 minutes into the 15 minute media cycle, but the response is looking pretty damn glowing so far.

4 minutes into your video I closed it. Didn't need to hear or see any more. Can't wait to jump into this!

Thanks for the video!

One of the big questions I had was answered; it looks like you can holster your weapons at will, yay! That's something I wish was a standard feature in all first person adventure/shooters.
Do the people notice you using your powers/blinking around/etc.? I heard someone say "Impossible!" during the video, and I wonder if that related to the use of a power. Do you have to be careful when you break out the magic to avoid bringing attention to yourself?

I'm also thrilled that you can hide the HUD. Is its auto-fade something that you can control, or were you hitting a button to hide/show it?
Does the game feature difficulty levels?

The same! Also, now I get why a lot of reviews mention BioShock.

It kills me that it isn't out in here until Friday. And I'm gone for the weekend.

- Yeah, "friendly" NPCs will react to what you do. Enemies will definitely react. In front of friendly people you don't need to worry much unless you kill someone.

- Tons of options for tweaking the interface. Health/Mana always on. Objectives off and on. Tips. Glowing items, etc.

- Easy, Normal, Hard and Very Hard.

I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I see the code for this is now available on GMG. I'm preloading now.

Giant Bomb's quick look. I think it's a really good watch. Patrick clearly loves the game and Ryan is skeptical.

Thanks for the video Certis!

I was totally going to wait on this game because i have borderlands 2 to finish and x-com on the way, even though I've been looking forward to this game most this fall. But now with the good reviews and that I'll be bed ridden for a few day due to an emergency appendectomy yesterday, might have to pick this up to keep things fresh.

Bummer, IUMogg -- hope your recovery is fast and uneventful.

And that's a pretty good reason to spoil yourself with a new game.

It's therapy! That's it, therapy.

With a prescription and a sympathetic doc, I bet you could pull from an FSA for it. Clearly a requirement for your convalescence.

I'm so excited for this game. I haven't read any of the reviews or watched trailers or other videos because I don't want anything to spoil the experience. I love going in to a game with a blank slate.

Thanks Malor and the Hipgamer. I'm doing pretty well, they actually discharged me early, so i didn't have to spend another night in the hospital. They said the pain will increase the next few days. It's not too bad if I'm not moving. Staring at a tv and playing an awesome game will keep me from not moving quite well.

Right on, hang in there, and get well soon.

It's probably been linked already, but I just read RPS' Wot I Think about Dishonored, and it completely sold me. Then Certis' video re-sold me. Then the Quick Look sold me a 3rd time. I really can't afford another game right now, but this looks so awesome!
