Well, a bit of interesting info just came out about this game, so maybe it's time to start this up.

Here's the article with a good bit of info. Or the ign version, which gives some headlines for quick skimming.

So Nintendo's last big game on the Wii, and a showcase of motion+ is 'complete' and only now going through the magic Nintendo polishing machine, all for a worldwide simultaneous launch.

We've got a few bits more on the story and game specifics from the article as well:

What's that, Zelda's not a princess? Well, that makes sense why she looked much more 'normal' in all the trailers.

- In this game, Zelda starts out as a childhood friend of Link's -- and not royalty. "She's not a princess this time," Aonuma said, "which is something I'll pretty much have to put forth right now in order to talk about this title. She's a childhood friend, but she goes away in the midst of the game and it's Link's job to search for her."

Different items in the begining? Yes, please.

- Aonuma's team is making a deliberate effort to give Link new items -- like the boomerang-beetle in the E3 demo -- early on in Skyward Sword. "With previous Zeldas," he said, "the common pattern was that the really neat items wouldn't show up until later on in the game. You need to have the basic item set or it wouldn't be Zelda, so the new items tended to get shunted to the latter part of the game. [Shigeru] Miyamoto said that had to change, like 'This is neat, let's bring it out from the start.' So a lot of neat new items will show up pretty early on."

And, evidently we're going ot learn Ganon's origins?

- Will Ganon show up? "This game talks about the birth of the Master Sword, and it touches on why Ganondorf showed up.

I, for one, look forward to getting my waggle on and slashing enemies in a simliar manner to Red Steel 2. I think the 3rd person perspective and not having to return to aiming will make it much more managable.

UPDATE: The release date is November 20th, 2011, there will be 2 versions. One will be the standard game for $50, the other will come with a gold Motion+ remote for $70. Both will, for a limited time, come with a Zelda 25th anniversary soundtrack CD from the smyphonic concert series.

Now, if they would just give us a release date.

Now, if they would just explain the timeline.

Well, this one is 'explained' as being an origin story. So now we know this game comes before the others and uh, zelda 1 is before 2 and uh, aLttP is before Links Awakening. Maybe?

I just like playing the games and would be perfectly happy if they said each game was not all part of a bigger single timeline.

Listen to this while you read the thread.

I think that is my fav.

Well they said it ties in with OoT, unless that was just a advertisement for the 3DS version

Yeah, I was kidding, for the most part. I don't care about continuity in my Zelda games. Trying to make it all fit is impossible, unless it's all a dream or some such thing.

I haven't been this excited for a game since they announced Super Mario Galaxy 2. Heck, I might even be more excited. Zelda is what got me back into gaming after I'd abandoned it entirely.

I'm pretty stoked about the 1:1 swordplay. Impressions from E3 were somewhat buried, but generally very positive. I thought the E3 trailer shown was quite good. Count me in.

The only think keeping me from selling my Wii. I can't wait.

I'll be getting a Wii for this.... Totally looking forward to it.... and to learn Ganon's origins and the Master Swords' creation. I always thought it was a de-powered Four Sword, so it'll be interesting to see how they see it working.

I'm still cautiously optimistic. Hopefully, we'll have an official release date announcement soon.

My money is on November 20th. The Sunday before Thankgiving. Nintendo loves releasing on that day in America.

Gotta love the mystery of this title. In contrast to most AAA games of today, we don't really know much about the game. The style and atmosphere is a positive step for me considering that the dark, but boring besides the dungeons, Twilight Princess is easily my least favorite in the series from Nintendo. I should wait for the reviews, but I'm too much of a nostalgic sucker for the golden wiimote.

That's basically exactly what Nintendo's said in the past. If I remember correctly, someone somewhere in some interview said something about each game, or pairs of games in cases where there's a direct sequel, basically being like a different folk legend being told by different people. That's why there is sometimes conflicting information from game to game, making a timeline incredibly difficult to figure out.

Nintendo has given me so many birthday presents over the years. Well, they've given me so many things to spend my birthday money on over the years, but still.

I absolutely love the look of the game, as well.

Anyway, I was thinking about this lately, and it's just slightly off topic, but eh. So, there seem to be a lot of people who are really down on Twilight Princess, and apart from a very slow start, I've never been able to figure out exactly why. Most people just say they don't like it and never really explain why, and I don't really get it myself. Twilight Princess is one of my favorites in the series. I mean, you get a ball and chain, you meet yetis, the chicken people give me nightmares, and you get two hookshots!

Not talking about you specifically, though, because I can gather that you didn't like the graphics and/or atmosphere and found much of the "overworld" stuff boring. Fair enough. And I know there's not really anything you could say that would make me truly get it, because I can only disagree. I just can't understand why there's such a seemingly large amount of people who really don't like that game when it has two hookshots! TWO!

But I guess it seems like that with every Zelda game since Ocarina of Time. It's like how nobody seems to like Final Fantasy games after Final Fantasy 7, except that Ocarina of Time is actually a brilliant game. But I digress.

Crazy excited for this game.

Subscribing to thread.

I'll be surprised if this ever comes out. I love every Zelda, so I'm sure I'll love this one.

What a great line

Bwah? The game hasn't even been given a delay yet.

Seems like this is the game that will make me finally get a Wii. Hmmm.

I think that in the context of the larger Zelda series, Twilight Princess has little with which to distinguish itself. OoT is genre-defining in the grandest sense of the term; Majora's Mask is phenomenally weird/cult; Wind Waker is my personal favorite for its art style and unique 'water world' setting. Twilight Princess comes off to me as a competent Zelda game that sort of rips off Okami.

The circuitousness of this statement makes my brain laugh and cry at the same time. Bravo

When this game gets released, I also plan to get the limited edition gold WiiMote+ just for the purpose of playing it with this game.

Whether it matters or not, I should say that I played through the story and never picked it up again.

I don't want to get too deep, just list my general feelings. And like you said, we just have different opinions. Awesome.

1) The Past: Just like Castlevania, Zelda remains one of my favorite series despite it's numerous games. Though to be fair, I can't say I've played them all. My favorite game (of all time) is A Link to the Past, only besting Wind Waker because of what it meant to me personally. Summary: I love Zelda.

2) Pre-release: The game had a lot to live up to. Not only did it follow Wind Waker, which I have hardly any complaints for (I love its "warts"), but also the wait for players was very long.

3) The Game: I didn't like the setting or the mood. There's always some whimsey to be had in Zelda, but I found little here. Its progression went from dreary to dreary to dreary. Huh, that's no progression. I also didn't like a lot of the new gameplay, minus the items of course. The horseback combat never felt great to me, I hated those collect-a-thon dark-side missions, and felt most of the areas were boring and dull to explore, which goes back to the setting and mood. I always wanted to spend as little time as possible in the over-world. Not good in a Zelda game. I also don't even remember what the collectibles were in the game, which doesn't say anything good about them.

The story was fine and the dungeons made me keep playing; the Sky Temple being a Zelda highlight for me. That's good enough I hope.

Plop plop, fizz fizz.

Fair enough.

I think one of the reasons I couldn't get into Twilight Princess (on the Wii) is the Wiimote controls. I didn't enjoy having to hack and slash with it, and as such the game wore on me. Once I'm done Ocarina of Time 3DS I may try Twilight Princess again, since I helped get it for my sister on GameCube.

In terms of tone and appearance, well, let's be honest with ourselves. Considering the initial reaction to Wind Waker, Nintendo must've figured we wanted a dark Zelda experience. So they concocted a Zelda that would be as grim and gritty as they thought audiences wanted. You can tell it's not quite the Zelda game Nintendo wanted to make, though.

I'm uncertain on Skyward Sword. It looks beautiful, but something about it just doesn't sit right with me.

It's probably because of Link Lucious Lips

He looks like a girl!

and again, frustratingly female faced Link

Zelda has manlier lips than Link. Also, she needs to she a plastic surgeon about her nose.

Eh, I got burned being pissed about Zelda art style once. It's not the ideal look, but I'm sure it'll wind up great, and probably the best they can do on Wii without lifting Wind Waker's look whole-hog.

I honestly don't care. I enjoy cel-shading a lot actually. I'll play and love the game regardless. I also loved waggling my way through Twilight Princess.

I'm just pointing out, they're kinda making some odd decisions in the details of the main characters.

Oh, the graphical style is fine. It's more or less the gameplay I'm uncertain about. That's more to do with my dislike for actual sword swinging with no option for traditional controls, though.

I guess I'm on a media blackout with this game. I'm not worried about spoilers, but I simply don't care to see anything about it. I'll buy it, day one, sight unseen, no questions asked. How's that for brand loyalty?
