Teamspeak FAQ

I've been meaning to do this for some time now and with so many new faces popping up I guess I've dragged my heels long enough! I'll add more later, I'm in a bit of a hurry right now.

1) TeamSpeak can be downloaded at GoTeamspeak.com

2) Once TS is installed run it and go to Settings - Sound Input/Output settings. Click on the "Activate Local Test Mode" button at the bottom and start talking. What you hear there is roughly what everyone else will hear once you connect to the TS server. We'll get to "issues" with the playback when I have a bit more time.

3) Click on Connection - Connect on the main TS screen. Right click anywhere on the left-hand column of white space and click on "add server" on the right-hand side add the following information:

IP: 209.137.185.137:8767
User Password: gwjts

Enter your nickname and make sure "anonymous" is selected.

4) Once that's done just click on "connect" and off you go. You can join different channels by clicking them on the interface or going to Settings - Key Settings and clicking on "add" and following the steps. I'll cover those is greater detail soon too.

I've gotta run for now, check back later!

Yeah, it's scary. I'm staring into the abyss right now, and it's staring into me, which I think is kind of a dick move on the abyss's part. - Nyles

I for one hate hearing other people breathe, fart or worse reverb back into the mic. Please set yourself up for ''Push-To-Talk''. I use one of the shift keys but any underused key by your hands will work.

I am really uncoordinated as it is. If I had to push a key, or worse yet, take my hand off my mouse, to talk, I''d never live more than 30 seconds in JO.

By the same token, I did spend a good amount of time in Local Test mode trying to get things set up so I don''t come across as a mouthbreather.

If you''re coordinated enough, definitely go for Push To Talk, but I''ll just take some abuse and exit the game until things are just right if someone can hear me breathing.

Precisely why I have mine set to the middle mouse button .

I always find myself using the middle mouse button for things in games, but the side buttons? Not so much. I''ve got the button right under my thumb on the mouse setup for push to talk, and a combination of both side buttons setup to talk to all the CS channels.

To be honest, breathing/farting isn''t so bad, the reverb sux though. I hate hearing my own footsteps half a second after I hear them on the screen.

So what is the CS setup that seems to work for you guys?

If we get a breather, he''s usually called out pretty quickly. The proggy will let you know who is broadcasting so it''s easy to identify the culprit. Most of us use headphones if we''re set to ""hands free"" mode to prevent the reverb. I used to use push-to-talk and I pretty much ended up just not speaking (which some may have considered a blessing). Besides, there is nothing worse than pressing-to-talk to laugh at someone''s joke.

TeamSpeak is pretty good at minimizing incidental noises once you''ve played with the sensitivity settings a bit. The only drawback is that usually the first half of the first word you say can get clipped while TS decides you actually intend to broadcast something. For this reason I tend to scream for a second or two before saying anything, just to make sure my sentence gets broadcast in its entirety.

On a side-note.. I''ve gotten used to using the Teamspeak Overlay so I know who''s talking, but haven''t been able to make it work with CS. It still works fine with JO, but I can''t get it to do anything in CS.

Just my two cents but Teamspeak Overlay (TSO) is worth checking out at http://www.qbnut.com/tso/. Basically it''s an addon to Teamspeak that will display the name of the person currently speaking directly within the game like an onscreen HUD. I have it set to the left side of the screen in JO and it makes a huge difference in figuring out who is talking (or getting killed). I know some people have compatability problems with it but I have had no issues with it. Just read the readme and stick with the startup routine: Teamspeak, TSO and then the game.

It''s not part of the TS program Mr. Green, it''s a tiny little seperate program that you download.

Lock&Load posted the link up there. Check it out even if for nothing other than JO. It still works great for that game.

Thanks Certis! My question is that by the pull down menues, it ''seem''s to me that you can save more then one IP and such. But I''ll be darn if I can figure out how to do it. It''s kind of a pain to put in GWJ''s one night and then TG''s another etc. Is there a way to save multiples?

Geeez. I need to really ''READ'' what folks take the time to type out. Sorry I missed that. I''m like that guy who''s already throwing the ball before he actually catche''s it.

Definition of Irony: Badgering people in your gaming forum to list easy instructions to hooking up to the teamspeak servers and then coming home and finding that your headset mic is broken! And the boom-mike that shipped with your $2k+ computer is a loving rendition of the old tin-can/string solution done up in plastic and wires. GRRRR! So.... a bullet I''ve been avoiding for a long time: Are any of the Headphone/Mic combo things any good in practice? Keep in mind I''ve got a larger than average head... *sigh* There! I''ve said it... I''m a freak! Anyway... I''m going google-browsing for reviews and then I''ll probably just head over to my local super-walmart and pick up whatever strikes my fancy... sigh...

I blame my little brother! He said it just ''gave out''... Janked a little to roughly while gaming is more likely!

Anyway... I''ll still see if I can connect using this little boom-mike thingy... *sigh* Then I need to go shopping anyway.

Hmm... is anyone else having connection problems with the TS server? It keeps telling me that the server isn''t there or that it isn''t running TS... then it connected and then immediately timed out... then it told me ;:[17:52:36] Undefined internal error

Is this normal or did I catch it during some sort of maintenance cycle?

Cool! Uhm? Search? Search is for people willing to wade through irrelevant keywords... the benefit of being fairly new... is the blissful ignorance of all previous questions and answers! Everything is a strange new dilemma and it is up to you veterans to point out the ''obvious'' to me... otherwise what distinguishes you veterans from us Coffe-Grinders? Whooops! I''m an Intern now? WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?!?! Awww nuts! Now I''ll have to remind NuB''s to check the threads before posting repeat questions!!! Goodbye blissfull ignorance! Hello encyclopedic topic memory!

*grin* Seriously though... thanks for providing the link. I did read it and I will compare the list of recommended models with what I have available... Though I will most likely purchase a pair tonight and then take them back in a giant huff when the Ones I''ve Researched And Ordered Online have been delivered... *grin* Because I am a consumer whore!

On a somewhat related tangent, do you guys tend to use TS during CS games or the ingame voice options? I get all nervous and stuff on TS... after that time I managed to broadcast the depravities of an entire college cheerlea... err, never mind. I''m just bashful, that''s it!

I obviously need to get in the channel more often- I had no idea what I''ve been missing!

If you can fart loud enough to get TeamSpeak to transmit in hands free mode then you have some pressure. Personally, if I could fart that lough I''d be worried that I''d sh*t myself.
