Let's buy Edwin a PC before he explodes. It's for the common good.

Edwin? You know Edwin. He's having a bit of a rough patch and he's sans PC at the moment. You know how we all have various parts laying around collecting dust that we'll end up tossing anyway? Well, let's coordinate that stuff and get him something to get him by until he can turn things around, shall we? Actually no. Forget that. Let's buy him a laptop because he doesn't have a lot of room around the house and so we don't have to worry about shipping stuff from all over.

Look at his avatar. LOOK AT IT. Now cough up some parts cash because you're helpless against that picture.

Post if you're willing to donate to the cause and I'll PM you the paypal info.

Update: Hey! We're almost there =) We're done! For god's sake stop giving me money!

I have nothing to offer in terms of PC parts, and shipping it from 'down here' to 'up there' seems silly. However, as mentioned by Thin_J in the loathe thread, shipping might be tight come sending time. Let me know when and where, and I'll chip in towards the cost if someone has a PayPal account I can send my bit through to.

Oily, might be worth starting a 'running tab' of parts in the original post so people know what we need to donate/bits we're missing, etc.

Paraphrased from the loathe thread, but:

Right now the only free part I have to volunteer is a case, if he wants or has room for it. CoolerMaster Stacker RC-830, Silver, huge, fans, etc, etc.

If the timing works out, I'll be doing a Sandy Bridge build soon and I'll have an EVGA P55 SLI + i5-750 just laying around. I'll happily donate those and the case.

Might be a few weeks until I can afford my new build, but other than time spent waiting it's all free

Personally, I'm all for waiting on Thin_J's core components. If the case is too much size-wise, I'll see what I can do about supplying another one. Same with graphics, depending on what comes up there.

I may upgrade one of my backup drives to a 2 TB drive... I keep having to delete stuff off of my backup drive to make room which is a pain. If I do that, I would have a decent 1 TB drive to donate...

I also might have a CPU cooler I could donate, similar to a Corsair H50. The only thing is, it's got some goofy connectors which might not pair with some motherboards. Couldn't hurt to try... it's just been sitting around in my room for the past few months after I upgraded my cooler.

I'm pretty sure I've got an unused SATA DVD-R drive at home. I may also have a wireless networking card. It is also possible neither of these components are in my possession anymore, as I offloaded most of my old parts a while ago. I will have to take a look.

I'd be willing to donate some stuff. It's pretty long in the tooth, but I can at least offer. I've got a Nvidia motherboard with AMD chip (I know it's a 939 chipset Athlon X2, I believe the CPU is a 4200+ but I need to check.) Ancient and outdated I know, but it's what I've got laying around. Though it may work with drdoak's memory.

I've also got a power supply laying around that I believe is 400w, maybe. I can check later tonight and confirm stuff.

Socket 939 used DDR1, not DDR2. I know because that's what I replaced last year.

I have:
- a DVD drive
- a GeForce 7900GT, may not work.
- SoundBlaster Audigy, if you're not running Vista/Win7
- VGA/Network/Power cables

Seems a bit silly to ship from the land of Belgiums if there's someone closer, but if needed I'll get it to Florida.

Not sure if its needed, I have a D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 DESKtop PCI Adapter.

Otherwise I have a DELL XPS and 19 inch lcd monitor, would want a couple hundred + shipping for it. If I wasn't broke, I would offer it for free, it runs decent, comes with windows xp disc, I would just need to wipe the hdd.

<-- this is penguin realizing everyone paypalling $20 to buy Edwin something instead of cobbling together a frankenstein monster from old parts might work a lot better.

Thoughts? It's certainly less fun but it might be way easier than shipping a ton of parts =)

I'm happy to contribute as well. Edwin gave Stylez and I a ton of help on bidding for a large corporate job a year ago we didn't end up getting. When I was at the worst phase of my unemployment, he actually PayPalled me money to buy groceries which is probably the kindest thing anyone's ever done for me. I would tend to agree that just PayPalling him money for a new PC is probably easier because it will ultimately cost a lot less than sending him parts from all over the place. I'm happy to do what I can to ease his troubles though, he deserves it.

I'd be down for sending some money via paypal instead. Considering the age of my stuff anything I could contribute might cost more to ship than it would be worth, and easier to just go to a computer store or newegg and buy new.
