Dawn of War II: Retribution (PC)

This is probably one of the most enjoyable games I've had so far. Pawz and I went double chaos against a Space Marine and Imperial Guard. Dude, what a match!

DOW really does have it's moments.

Those two BC's were the game changer. Fun game to watch.

Anyone want to co-op the campaign?

This game is like eating a chilli. It's both pleasurable and extremely painful at the same time. When you win it's sweet. When you lose it's like someone drops a piano on you. Most of my losses lately have been whompings. Like I never stood a chance. Then I check their rating and their hugely more than mine.

Damn it DOW, let me love you! Why won't you let me love you?

If you see me online and want to play, let me know. I was playing through the campaign with a friend of mine, but we never got it finished.

Will do. I have not played the campaign at all yet.

No one has posted this yet?

No April fools this time people. Tau are coming to DOW2

So far it's only Last Stand, but you can tell they'll bring them in as another multiplayer race soon enough.

For 10$, no thanks.

Yeah, I saw that too. To be honest, I'd be happy with $1.99 for a single commander. Still, looks cool. Should be interesting to see if anyone actually buys it at that price.

Due to the popularity of the DoW2 tournament at Penguin Con, I'm considering a new tournament: The Big Brother.

The biggest complaint has always been from new players not being able to hold up against the veterans. I want to switch things up by trying to level the playing field a little bit by requiring a team to consist of a new player and a veteran player. If there's enough interest in this, I will gladly put together some rules and a thread for sign ups.

I had a lot of fun with this at Penguincon, even when I was still fumbling around trying to poke at what does what and how things worked.

I don't know about a tournament right off the bat, but if we can at least get a 2v2 match or two going on a regular basis I'll do my best to hop on and play with you guys.

I'm in, of course.

You gonna wear that sweet hat while you play?

I demand Fedora v. Gunner show match with commentary from Super Dave and Oily.

Gunner uses performance enhancing drugs!

This is a great idea made slightly greater.

I wonder if this means we'll see the Tau in the next DoW2 expansion. If I recall, they introduced the Chaos marines in Last Stand before Chaos Rising and introduced the Tyranids in Last Stand before Retribution.

Count me in! It was fun getting cheesed by Fedora haha but I had tons of fun playing and watching

Not quite. Choas in the last stand was limited to Wave 20 and wasn't playable until Chaos Rising. Tyranids were one of the four original races in DOW2. The campaign even focused on them as the big bad bugs. They were later added to the Last Stand as a playable commander in Chaos Rising.

I'm definitely interested but I only have the first two games. Could I still play or do I need Retribution to be remotely competitive?

Also, and this question is to the group, is the single player campaign in Retribution worth $15?

Short answer, no. Long answer, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Well if you want to link yourself a multiplayer community that runs on Steam instead of GFWL you will need to play multiplayer games using Retribution.

I'd drop $10 on that, but Tau are hands down my favorite army in tabletop.

You need Retribution to play at this point. I think the single player was worth $15. It pales in comparison to the first two, but I mean...$15, cmon!

You mean commentary by Dave with me putting in "he should have built more tzeench marines" every 30 seconds with Dave patiently responding, "he's playing Eldar."

Yeah, we can do that.

I'm in for whatever but I think we should just have a night to get some pick-up games in for a little bit right now. A tournament might be a little premature. I do like the format Dave is proposing, though.

Will do. I have not played the campaign at all yet.

If you still looking for someone to play the main campaign with someone, add me up. I have to play the core game, as well as Retribution one time.

I actually found the campaigns alone to be worth the $15, especially considering they were coop. Even though the decision to use the same structure led to it feeling cookie cutter, I feel like the writing and mission design have steadily improved since the base game. Last Stand is just icing on the cake really.

As for future expansions, I thought I remembered Relic saying Retribution was to be the last expansion for DoW2.

Correct no more full expansions - however I am sure we will see DLC here and there . The next big is DoW III...

Yes I would be interested in a little tourn, consider me a new when it comes to the MP part.

I like this, but $10 does seem a bit much... One last stand hero is worth 1/5 of a new game price? Maybe if it was the whole race in MP...

Agreed, too rich for my blood. Admittedly, Steam sales have spoiled me rotten in terms of what I'm willing to spend for games and/or DLC.
