Become a Gamer with a Gaming Job.
Thursday, October 7th, 2004 - 1:11pm
Alright gents, A Few Screws Loose is looking for a programmer. I'll give you the basic information, and then point you to our website where you can find the rest of the relevant contact information and such.
We're an Austin independent developer that has recently gotten underway with a project using our own technology. We need a programmer familiar with Python primarily, and preferrably who has spent time doing some kind of game programming in the past.
Since Gamers with Jobs has been so wonderful at covering independent projects, I felt it would be a great place to see if anyone here is interested in breaking into the industry.
You'll find the rest of the information for application at our website: www.afslgames.com
Please submit away!

I''m a pretty smart guy.
Can you just teach it to me and then I''ll work for you?
Pllleezzeee?

Programming is a much better way to get into ""the industry"" that being a game tester.
I saw the movie Python (Ok I saw it on the shelf at Walmart) can I have money now?
WOW: Bounce
Syixxs, we talking stock python, python OpenGL, or high level python/.net/directx type stuff? Some of it I cna do, some of it....I''d have to books 24/7.
Are you sure you don''t have to do ''gay programming'' first?
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
Mateo, we''re talking stock Python, Twisted, and OpenGL. If you think you''ve got the familiarity, go ahead and apply.
Well other than being a programmer (MS), I have none of the required skills... but I really want to move to Austin - pick me, pick me!
Edit: I can''t even get BBCode right. Impressive, eh?

I never minded piracy. Anyone who minds about piracy is full of sh*t. Anyone who pirates your game wasn't going to buy it anyway! -Warren Spector

What are your skills? If C++ shoot me your resume (wce AT ausdig dot com). While not a gaming company we are your stereotypical Austin software shop. (Scary sanitation, barefoot/Birkenstock, geek t-shirts, shorts, too many empty beer bottles) If that sounds like your type of environment then this place is awesome. Stable, niche market, I''ve been here 5 years now.
Sorry for the thread derailling...

As long as we''re off track already...
Thanks for the ""offer"" LiquidMantis but the only C++ I have is two semesters of instruction back in 96. Since I''ve been out (97), it''s been almost all VB/ASP/T-SQL and other web type stuff (e.g. ColdFusion, some PHP/MySQL and even a little Perl).
I was in consulting (not contracting) for five years and so my programming lagged a bit while they had me doing business analysis, project management and other non-technical things in addition to my development work.
I''m now back doing full-time programming (Flash/VB6/ASP3/SQL2k/etc.) and migrating to C# but I fear I''ll never be ""l33t"" enough to be a games programmer.
My current plan is to somehow get to Austin, settle in, work on an advanced degree (MBA?) at UT in a couple years and the hopefully get into the interactive entertainment industry on the production side of the house by the time I''m 35 (currently 29). I don''t know if it''s a good plan but at least it''s something.
Apologies to the rest of you who have no interest... but feel free to comment as all feedback is welcome.

Probably a waste of your time for me to apply. Can''t leave Boston right now (family & inlaws) so if relocation is a must, it''s not worth it.
Python??!! The whitespace unfriendly perl-alike?
I wouldnt mind doing some contract work
