CoH Woes

Am I the only one having issues with this new patch?

First I have a mission where the mobs disappear and I can't complete the mission.

Second DR. Marlin sent me an email and I can't read it so I try to out-smart the game and do a reply. The game crashes on me and I fill out a bug report.

I'm going to defrag and see if that helps.

Check out COH forums, they''re still issuing hotfixes and hammering out the bugs.
Your problems are minor compared to some others people experienced.

Currently CoH = unplayable.

I hadn''t gotten that far yet but did notice they took the server down earlier today for some fixes.

Thanks for the info, it''s good to know I''ve got small potatoes.

Yeah, I was getting DBconnect errors trying to get back in after my email bug crash. Still I did some drive cleanup and the patch was big so I''m going to finish my defrag and go from there.

That disappearing mob problem (especially in hostage mission in the lab-style area) has been going on for awhile. It''s really annoying.

The only thing that''s keeping me playing this game is my toon looks like a badass with a cape.

Last night was an atrocious experience for me. There were mobs that just seemed to suddenly take damage, or start running away on their own or would not die even if I constantly hit them. At one point I just died. Not sure why, I was low on life and no bad guys were near me but boom, dead. If they are having database problems I wonder if the game servers are assigning duplicate ids to multiple mobs and everything is getting jumbled up.

Damn those Raluua portals, it''s all their fault I bet. Bastards are hard to kill too, even at an even con.

Yeah, those Raluua things are tough.

I played on Liberty until about midnight PST and then played for another hour on Pinnacle till 1am. The experience was better but I was using my other toon so didn''t worry about the bugged quest.

My experience so far: played thursday night for a few hours and could not get through the TV trial to respec. This is with a team of 6. 30,000 debt.

Friday I played for around 9 hours. Managed to do TV trial in around 2 hours thanks the the changes they made to it. I didn''t really need to respec my Fire/Dev blaster that much, but my BS/Regen buddy got about 2x better once he fixed his build. I hit lvl 32 later in the day and got Inferno. Quite a nice power but the end cost is retarded (all end drained and no regen for 15 seconds).

Saturday I started a new Katana/Regen scrapper to see the changes and he is my new favorite character. I love the new animations so much! He holds the sword with both hands now and the brawl animation is changed so he hits the enemy with the bottom of the hilt when he has the sword drawn. Very cool.

I love the changes to the indoor missions. All kinds of new interiors to reflect the prupose of the mission, superdyne labs, 5th Coloum warehouses etc. The missions now have doors you can open as well, which is cool.

Stability has been absolutely horrible since the patch. Pinnacle has been especially bad. There will be a lot more patching to come I think.

Populations on the live servers has gone waaay up again as well. I didn''t realize how many people were playing on the test servers!

A couple of martial arts nerds, including yours truly, have been wondering about the CoH katana grip.
As far as Japanese martial arts go, the right hand should always be on top, yet it is left hand in City of Heroes.

Hey just remind yourself, its still not as bad as the infamous WWIIOL bug where it deleted your windows directory quite a few patches back. Oops!

Yep, CoH katana grip is just plain wrong. There was a big discussion about this on the official boards, very similar to the ""military salute is wrong"" discussion. Basically, the defense is, it''s a frickin game about super heroes, not gonna be perfect realism

Actually, I seem to recall the defense being something like this: If it wasn''t left handed the hero would have to change his stance if you used any non-katana power. Switching stance back and forth as you use powers would not only be a pain to animate, it would look silly. Making katana left-handed solves this problem. Oh, and it''s a frickin game about super heroes...

Yep, what Berthold said. The devs are well aware of what the Katana grip SHOULD look like, but to do it properly would require them to change the footstance of the character, which would in turn require them to either change stances every time the player uses a non-katana power, or create a new animation for every single non-katana power a scrapper could conceivably get. Neither option is as satisfactory as simply making the katana left handed. Easy.

Sorry to hear you''ve been having so much trouble. I''ve had the same connectivity troubles as most people due to server issues, but otherwise I''ve been lucky. I think a lot of the problems stem from their server troubles (lag, disconnects, db errors, etc.) which they should hopefully have ironed out soon. My playtime yesterday afternoon was essentially flawless, except for a couple of error message on entering a mission (but the errors didn''t do anything).

The Rularuu are pretty ridiculous though. My tanker can jump into a group of 10 red cons, and through judicious use of inspires and tactics defeat them. He jumped into a group of 2 blue brutes and 2 white observers and was KO''d about 10 seconds later, without ever making an attack. Ugh.

Actually other than my broken quest all is back to normal for me. I''ll try the quest again in a week since I''m sure they''re busy with their patch fixing and go from there.

I played for several hours during the day yesterday and had no problems what-so-ever. The server load was pretty low though, so that was a factor as well.

I am almost lvl 33 now. Woo-hoo!

BTW, I finished a couple of story arcs that I was working on in the late 20s and I didn''t get the SO when I finished them. I think it was because I was level 32 when I finished the arcs, but they gave the me SO selection screen and then no SO, boo!

Well, JimmDog and I had bad problems with the game crashing/booting us.

It got so bad, that once when he dropped, I said ""hey, there goes Gloom again. Best I drop soon"" and, sure enough, I crashed just a couple of minutes later. Ended up crashing a little too hard at one point and couldn''t get back in due to a server DB error.

What''s really odd is, I''ve been crashing a lot on Pinnacle, but I have alts on Liberty, and haven''t had a single problem there. When I crashed out of the HWJ group last night and couldn''t get back into Pinnacle, I hopped over to Liberty and hooked up with a friend there.

3 crashless hours, whereas in my shorter time with the HWJ crew, I crashed 5+ times.

Yeah, Pinnacle hasn''t been in good shape lately. Hope they fix it, I''ve got 8 characters on that server alone.
